I like that a lot. It's something that the older and younger kids can do, and there is a pretty quick pay-off.

Incidentally, I had a dream that you were in last night. It's weird when you dream about someone you've never met, and only seen pictures of. But in my dream I was in Minnesota, and you were showing me around. You were very nice.

Mmmm! Strawberries! There are plenty of science standards we could address. I was thinking, too, that since the neighborhood my school is in has a lot of people that can't afford fresh fruits and vegetables at the grocery store, maybe we could do something with them. Perhaps they could contribute seeds, and we could grow things. I don't know. I like where it's going, though.

Sorry to hear about your kitty. Rose-growing is indeed a good job.

Does service learning mean there is supposed to be some community benefit? You could do some kind of recycling tracking thing - where do the different kinds (paper, metal, plastic) go, and what happens to them then. The kids get to tour recycling plants and the dump, and who doesn't love the dump? Then they could create informational posters telling people the important of recycling and separating materials, etc. Let me know if you have particular goals/restrictions - I'll brainstorm more.

Thank you! And they'd get to say "dump" a lot which is even more fun than visiting a dump. They'd really get into making the posters as well. Great idea! Service learning is basically where they have to learn something, and then basically teach someone else. For example, they could learn about the history of our school, make a book, and then share it in the community. Things like that. Even if the older kids just taught the younger kids. Learning by serving.

Thanks for your brainpower. I know your mind is pretty occupied with a lot of other things right now. Hope they're getting less stressful, and I'm glad you're getting some closure in Iowa.
