So I finally caught Prince Caspian at the $2 Theatre last night. While it wasn't a very good adaptation of the book, it worked pretty well as a Narnia movie ( Read more... )

I don't, but I might know someone who does... you wouldn't happen to know Scott's last name, would you?

Not at all.

It's just old guy Scott, the hardcore Scooter Libbey fan.

My love of the Wonderworks Narnia productions is well-documented. Oh, how I love them. Even the embarrassing special effects.

While I absolutely love the Narnia books, I am not as big a fan of the movies. I think after Lord of the Rings, even though Narnia is a completely different and wonderful story, the movie just felt too close to LOTR to me because of the genre of movie and the release being just a few years after LOTR. However, both Narnia movies, were well done with costume, creature design, and animation as far as I can tell, but the whole time I just kept thinking, "this feels like a bright and sunny LOTR movie ( ... )

The Wonderworks was awesome, even if you have to laugh just a little now if you watch The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe when you see the beavers.

But I'll have to second Andrew, the Narnia movies come off as a Lord of the Rings Spin off. Moreover, some of the shots from Prince Caspian looked INCREDIBLY 'inspired' from other movies. (The ford of Beruna/the ford at Rivendell)

Also I feel that while the Wonderworks movies preserved the child-like nature of the original stories, today's movies must add in drama, confusion and action to get people to come. Hence the nighttime attack on the Castle. Not only is it the Hubris of Peter, the wrongs of overconfidence, but also an action scene. Toss in Caspian falling for Susan, as well as any number of small emotional things and you lose some of the simplicity of the story. Maybe more adults wouldn't want to watch it if it were that simple, but I'd bet that as many would come to relive childhood memories.

What I'm really waiting for is what the do with/to The Voyage of the Dawn

It closed maybe a year or so ago, but just recently reopened again. I think it's now owned by some friends of the second set of owners.
