Blehhh, you remind me that I need to check up on Homestuck again. I stopped at the July 14 update because I was suddenly busy with real life, writing, and betaing. Hussie just announced he won't update anymore for a while until he gets the end of Act 5 animation done, so I'm going to try to play catch up now. Real quick, I don't know what you mean by honkpapshoosh nor listened to the music yet. I'll let you know when I'm caught up!

And yes, you do need to catch up. And...you will find out when you get to it. =p

Or not. :|

But yes, I got so completely startled by it I almost forgot to sleep. It really catches you off guard! D:

Seriously, yeah. It's startling. But a little bit less "OH GOD OH GOD OH GOD" now thanks to the rough translation. The kids on that thread are right: knowing that the girl survived without a scratch makes a person think that besides psychological shock, the ghost doesn't do much. In fact, now that I think about it, it's actually kinda sad because it's just a mother looking for her baby girl.
...Yet I'm still not looking at that fucking GIF again.

I have to agree that knowing the details makes it a lot less disturbing - it sorta reminded me of Higurashi before I read the translation. The shock is less 'creepy and makes you lay awake at night' and closer to 'holy crap I just evacuated my bowels'.
The interesting thing is that it's not actually a gif - there's some kind of script in the webpage that activates when you scroll to a certain point. If you go back after it activates, you can see the frame by frame reveal. I think that's why it catches you off guard so well - it's not something you see very often.
... However, I have no plans to look at it again either. ._.

Agreed about that music. :D Liked the art quite a bit, too.

I jumped in my seat a bit, but I probably would have reacted more strongly to it if I hadn't already experienced a watered-down, movement- and noise-free version beforehand. Why I'm lamenting the fact that I didn't get to get scared as badly as I could have, I have no idea, but there it is.

And here's one of the set of images done in that flash! http://lazylaz.tumblr.com/post/9242576250 Do agree the art was quite good.
