Amusing complaints

Suddenly got an msn message from someone I never talked to much last night, beginning like so...

Shadow says:

hi

bobandbill says:

hello

Shadow says:

sup

bobandbill says:

not much atm, you?

Shadow says:

nm here either

bobandbill says:

just talking to other people and checking forums, really

meanwhile studying for fun exams -_-

Shadow says:

fun fun fun, where were u when i was fighting with those two dumbass grammar nazi`s in pokecommunity?

bobandbill says:

uh, probably at uni =p

do tell

Obviously this gets my attention, although I don't yet recall such an event.

Shadow says:

a month or two ago i posted a story called: the unicorn princess

as soon as i post the story i get comments nitpicking the story apart because of "grammar mistakes"

-pokes-

That's more than enough info for me to go on! A quick search (while I am poked for not replying asap) yields the thread on the 2nd page of PC's fic section.

Interestingly, it's a thread I closed for failing to meet the standards such as not using any capitalisation! HMM... A bit more searching also revealed they later remade the thread and had Astinus tell them stuff could still use improving, haha. I have no idea if she recalled I had closed the thread but... way to call in calling me a dumbass grammar nazi there!

bobandbill says:

well, grammar is a basic part of story telling tbh

iirc I closed the first thread too, so... =p

Shadow says:

yea if u publish and sell the damn story but if its posted on a creative writing thread in a internet forum i think the substance is more important than grammar

Right now I'm not inclined to listen to them anymore but I decide to humour them.

bobandbill says:

and if it's hard to read the story in the first place then it can have the be the best plot ever, but it's not going to have much readers

Shadow says:

its not hard to read the story if u focus on the words and not grammar

bobandbill says:

but most people, when they have the choice of a story that has little to no mistakes or one with many mistake will naturally go for the one that is easier to read

it's not hard to spend a bit of time proofreading (which also allows you to catch on things like characterisation and plot holes too, ie story-related aspects) and run things through a spell/grammar checker

Shadow says:

psssh i`ve read tons of fanfics with lots of grammar mistakes and i never once nitpick it to death because i enjoy wat the writer is saying

bobandbill says:

that's nice, but not everyone is like that

Because what I did was nitpick it to death instead of enjoying the exciting tale of... a beautiful princess being turned into a unicorn and going on a quest in which she rescues baby dragons and fairies to defeat the evil witch to turn herself back. Right.

But imo the best part of the short-lived convo is below:

Shadow says:

life in usa would be easier if everyone was like that, supporting each other and not nitpicking every single thing to death

bobandbill says:

not sure what that has to do with the lack of any capitalisation and so forth in your fic

Shadow says:

its symbolic, i view all my stories as living breathing children

nitpicking them all to death is no better than destroying their beauty within

bobandbill says:

that is the first I have ever heard that removing simple errors is removing beauty

but okay then, do tell how not using any capitals and runon sentences was symbolic

GUYS POINTING OUT ERRORS IN THINGS IS BRINGING THE USA WAY OF LIFE DOWN
THE MISTAKES ARE LIKE CHILDREN YOU DON'T WANT TO REMOVE THEIR BEAUTY, DO YOU!?

Sadly they then quit; I wanted to see their reasoning. =( Ah well, entertaining while it lasted.

And this needs more shameless advertising, so time to add that I've started a song parody thread for the heck of it on sppf/pc/maybe other places, so we'll see how that goes. Do check them out for mild amusement, repostage of parodies I did a year ago, and the chance to tell me to parody certain songs! Guess it also gives me some short term writing to do while still worrying about uni given the other things I'm currently working on is going slowly.

Also! Check this cool magazine (webzine?) out for articles and short written pieces on Pokemon that I may have contributed to! I'm finding it fairly fun tbh, setting it up, but it could also use more content, so if you don't mind contributing stuff to it, then... wynaut do so? =p

(Also am I blind or did the preview post button disappear)

dumb, ruining dreams of the usa life, more shameless advertising
