That was the American Idol goodbye song last year. It's actually a good song, but it was really, really overused for a while.

That would explain what it was doing on MTV even though the singer's name wasn't even a little familiar to me. Oh well. I think I like being pop-culture illiterate, because otherwise I probably wouldn't be able to enjoy watching this (even though it means I can't always contribute in band class).

Aye aye aye! I guess I don't find the song uplifting because
1. It's catchy, which means
2. I start singing it all the time, especially at the BEGINNING of days that have yet to be good or bad or at the end of days that are definitely good. I don't care what the actual message is, because I only really know the chorus, but I don't like the chorus' message.

I guess I just like to think of it as a sort of "so what if you had a bad day? It's going to get better right now!" message, which makes it seem more uplifting. I see where you're coming from though.
