I'm hyper. I just ate a chocolate snack wafer cookie thing and tomorrow I'm going to bake chocolate chip cookies at a friends house! And there's only 2 weeks of school left, which scares me because there's people I'm not going to see anymore because they live far away and I don't know what I'm going to do with all my free time unless it turns out ( Read more... )

I miss you!!!

EIGHT WEEKS!

I'm *so* excited.

And I really want to know what that Spanish means.

Ha! Latinite! Well, Frenchie now, I guess. Wow, that's weird. See how much I'm missing? Anyway, the point is I'm laughing at you. And not telling you how to say "I ought to enjoy it while I can" in Spanish. Note how I totally didn't translate anything there.

I miss you too! See how 8 weeks sounds so much shorter than almost 2 months? But seriously, not much time. Yay!

I wouldn't be surprised if in those glossy AFS brochures you get in the mail there are testimonials from participants that say things like, "If the me from a year ago had seen the me that walked down the street today...". The point is, I'd be surprised if you went to live in a faraway land for 6 months and didn't come back a different person. You're still you, but it's a you that knows more, has tried more things, and has grown in many ways. We liked the old you, and we'll like the new you too.
I don't think you'll have trouble readapting to MN. The challenge might be more to hang on to your memories from Costa Rica. It's easy to get stuck in the day-to-day routine here and forget, "I spent 6 months of my life there". But you'll be fine.

On Wednesday, we had a party for Emma. Which ended with some of us in Eli's bedroom, listening to Jamie read the Bible. For about an hour. It was pretty cool.

Yeah, I saw those brochures. And ignored that part, though it made me nervous and angsty as hell right before I left. I never really wanted to change. But it's all okay now. And to prevent forgetting these 6 months, I have a diary! In Spanish! (Well, starting in September.)

That sounds like such a cool party! We have to have more like it when I get back, agreed?

I'm glad you're OK with change. A diary (in spanish! impressive.) sounds like a good idea. And don't worry--we didn't even get through Genesis, so there's a lot more where that came from.

I was actually motivated to get out my bible and read some more, but it's much better with friends around.
Why is Genesis so long?
