Accused of bad manners

Oct 04, 2004 18:45

Oh boo-hoo, I got kicked out of d_hr_ficlets.

I could care less because this community is such a small part of where I go to fuel my D/Hr addiction anyway. What irks me most, though, is being accused of being rude/sneaky/backhanded to someone in the ‘ship.

I don’t really care that you’ve kicked me your of your community but I do care that you’ve accused me of being backhanded and sneaky and rude in my dealings with boome.

How is it backhanded when the first question I asked her is where she got the icon from? It was an honest question---I wasn’t being sly or backhanded. I wanted to know because I have NOT posted this photo manip anywhere else, other than my LJ. (If someone else lifted it from my LJ and put it on some web site, I sure don’t know about it). I don’t know what website you or boome are referring to. When boome informed me that she got it from some web site off Google, I did a similar search and couldn’t find it. Not that it mattered at that point because boome had already replaced her icon and to me that matter was resolved between us.

I apologize for posting non-relevant stuff on your community but I couldn’t find boome’s e-mail address and her LJ was friends only, so my only recourse in trying to find out where she got the icon from was to comment on her ficlet posting. I know that’s grounds for kicking me out of the community and I’m fine with that.

What I’m not fine with is the value judgment you placed on how I dealt with it.

If I wanted to be rude, I would have come straight out and accused boome of “stealing” something I don’t own; I wouldn’t have tried to find out where they got the icon from.

If I wanted to be rude, I would not have given boome the resources I knew of where they could find great icons.

If I wanted to be rude, I would have demanded that boome immediately remove her icon forthwith. I didn’t. I felt I asked her nicely. She apologized. And we both moved on, or so I thought until this.

You are certainly entitled to your opinions of people and you are entitled to kick out whomever you want from your community, just as I am entitled to put up this defense against your accusations of my sneakiness/rudeness/backhandedness. Because, frankly, I’m bewildered.

is my response to the mod, who wrote this

http://www.livejournal.com/users/fiveoclocktea/20159.html on her LJ

This whole thing is completely petty. It undermines the ‘ship and the fandom in general and I shouldn’t even waste my time replying.

But I am curious as to what my Flist thinks, because honestly, only their opinions matter. Here's where it all started:

boome (boome) replied to your LiveJournal comment in which you said:

Hi, I'm curious as to where you got your icon because it's the same exact one I have.

Their reply was:
I actually dont know :\, I think I found it when I googled H/D Icons.

Did you make it? Cause if you did, MAJOR credit is in order :)

boome (boome) replied to your LiveJournal comment in which you said:

Yes, I did make it. I know it's the same icon because there are certain details in it that are the same.

I didn't put this icon out there for anyone else to use as their own, so I would much appreciate it if you could take it down and use something else.

I highly recommend icons that cunning_croft made. They're great and they're up for grabs for anyone who wants to use them. Some of them are located at the_dhr_palette. They also have icons made by other talented individuals.

Other places you can get icons from: wizard_icons, hp_icons, hpottericons, potterish_icons, hp_graphics, h_p_graphics, alohomora_icons

Good luck with your search.

Their reply was:
Subject: Re: icon

So, whaddya think? Was I rude?
