Belated Happy Thanksgiving!
Wow, if I got hit by a bus and died, I’d hate for my last entry on this LJ to
be about Bush. What a waste.
A birthday celebration with close friends did wonders for my
post-election disposition. I surprised a friend for his birthday, and we
co-celebrated that weekend at an island beach house with several other friends.
I was only to happy to be away from rainy D.C. for a few days. The weather down
South was beautiful: sunny, warm, languid, a true Corona
commercial. I was in such a good post-birthday mood that a visit from a
Bush-voting relative the following week failed to get me down. Despite the fact
that he spent most of one day grousing me for how I voted. Whatever, bud. I am
happy.
Thanksgiving was fun. I stayed in town and only belatedly
realized that this was the first I’d spent away from family. It’s not such big
holiday for us, seeing as how we’ve only been in this country less than twenty
years. Can’t say I can relate to the whole Pilgrim-Indian tradition. Read an
interesting
article on the Post about
various groups wanting recognition for their claim to the “first” U.S.
Thanksgiving.
Despite my professed lack of connection to this holiday, I
do recognize the importance of reflecting on my many blessings. I had three
days off work and two out of town guests. I spent another day giving a walking
tour of D.C, but was thankful I was on my feet rather than gorging on turkey. It
rained one day and much as I would have liked to have stayed in bed, I got up and
played tour guide for my out of town friend. If I’d stayed in bed, I would have
missed out on the gorgeous fall leaves covering the walkways to some of the
memorials. I thought I’d have some time
this past week to work on my IATQO fic, but was thankful for the time spent
with friends and making memories. The only after-Thanksgiving item I bought was
the POA DVD. It is, after all, the administration’s responsibility to turn the
economy, not mine.
I can honestly say that at this very moment, I am quite
happy and content.
Other things I am happy about and thankful for:
-Updates of my favorite fics: Kyra4’s “
Valentine Encounter”,
Bluemidget’s “
Pansy’s Volcano,” Athena Linborn’s “
A Thread of Innocence,”
bunney ‘s “
Dowry of a Single Galleon,” and ficlets by
purnilla and
inell -
cunning_croft’s screencaps of
Draco eating the apple (somehow I didn’t react the same way when I watched the
scene again and again on DVD) and POA icons.
-
bunney’s link to the GOF Draco
pic
-being able to push a button on the remote that slows the
action so that I can ogle Draco as he walks toward Harry, taunting him. I am
such a perv.
