Four year old Adrian Malfoy
was setting up the new PlayPotions set he got for Christmas when the
fireplace across from him burst into green flames, heralding the arrival of his
godmother.
“Aunt Pansy!” he cried delightedly, as he rushed into her
eager arms.
“Hello, sweeting, “she crooned, sweeping him into a welcome
embrace. “Did you have a nice Christmas?”
“Yes! I got lots and lots of presents. Look at what Uncle
Snape got me!” he said proudly, taking her hand and leading her towards his
PlayPotions set. At four, Snape was a lot easier to say than Severus, and
“Uncle” was an honorary title that his mother insisted he use for a close
friend of the family’s. Much like he called his godmother “Aunt.”
“So, did you get everything you wanted for Christmas?” asked
Pansy, as she wryly inspected the PlayPotions set. I’d have expected Granger to give this to him, not Snape, she
thought.
“All except for one. Dad gave me a training broom and Mum
got me a talking otter plushie. Only it only speaks Japanese. It’s supposed to
learn me a new language.” Ah, that’s more
like it, thought Pansy. She didn’t bother to correct his grammar.
“Say, where are your Mum and Dad? I know they weren’t
expecting me until dinner, but I thought I’d pop in earlier to spend some
quality time with my favorite godson. “
“Aunt Pansy, I am your only
godson, “Adrian reminded her
sagely. “And Mum and Dad are upstairs. I’m not supposed to disturb them until
the big hand is at the twelve and the little hand is at the four.” He nodded
towards the clock on the mantle. “They’re working on that Christmas present I
didn’t get. Nanny said if I left them alone, there’s a good chance I might get
it for next Christmas.”
What present could
take a whole year to plan? Curious, she asked, “So, what was it you asked for
this year that you didn’t get?
He shrugged, as if it was the simplest thing in the world,
“A baby brother or sister.” Then, remembering something, he looked at her
hopefully, “Do you think I’ll get one? I mean, you gave Uncle Harry a baby last
month and it wasn’t even Christmas!”
