Finally, I have sound while running Fedora! After months of reading complicated things to do to try to get it to work, someone pointed out that there's a volume control app. It turns out some 'mute' check boxes were checked, and that prevented me from hearing anything.

Now I can hear! :-)

So I finally managed to upgrade to Fedora Core 3 a couple of nights ago. Of course I don't have much time to do anything with it, but at least I got my preferences all set up, etc.

After struggling with burning CDs in Fedora, I upgraded my CD burning program on my Windows XP. I have a program called RecordNow! which came with my Dell. I upgraded it, and now burning CDs is so simple. To burn the CDs I need to upgrade Fedora, I just download the ISO files, double-click on them, it comes up in RecordNow! and prompts me to insert ( Read more... )

I've read that Tom Hanks may star in "The DaVinci Code". I loved the book, and I like Tom Hanks, so I'm looking forward to the movie.

Over the weekend I downgraded my Fedora (to the original Fedora Core 2 with an older kernel), only to find that I still couldn't get cdrecord to work. So far I've managed to repartion (in order to put /home on its own partition), and re-installed the original Fedora Core 2. Hopefully I'll be able to burn a CD for Fedora Core 3 once I download (I'm doing that now).

It's winter in New England. Yesterday I drove home from work with snow on the ground, and this morning I cleared at least half the driveway (so driving over it wouldn't pack it down and leave ice on the driveway ( Read more... )

My last post about Fedora talked about how I had to downgrade the kernel in order to burn a CD. The solution on the web instucted me to go to a site to get the old kernel. Guess what? It's not there! Only the newer kernel. Arggh ( Read more... )

Fedora Core 3 is now available, so I'll be installing it on my home computer in the next few days. I did the first step last night, downloading the disk 1 ISO image last night. I plan to do several things differently than what I did with Fedora Core 2. I've gotten all these ideas from fedora-list, though I need to refresh my memory on the details.
