Corbin Bleu in In the Heights

When we started planning our trip to NYC, I really wanted to see In the Heights because it won the Tony Award 2 years ago. Corbin Bleu wasn't expected to stay this long, but he ended up extending his run through August, so we were able to see him!

We were kind of worried, since we were seeing the show on Tuesday, that there might be an understudy for Usnavi. In fact, there was an understudy for Sonny, but we were excited when we saw Corbin's name on the sign!

Here we are in front of the marquis, very excited because we'd just found out that Corbin indeed would be performing that night!

This sign was all over Times Square! It was so cool to see a giant Corbin everywhere!

We took photos of all the Corbin photos around the theatre.

It was funny because Corbin's character Usnavi doesn't know how to dance and is kind of a "dork" (actual word Corbin used to describe him!) It was so cute to see his character pathetically trying to dance when we all know what a great dancer Corbin really is!

Here's Usnavi with Abuela Claudia. Most of Corbin's songs were kind of rap-like, and he did a really good job (even though they were having problems with the mics that night!) If you haven't seen him, here are two links of him in the role: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TAF-S9b5Dsw and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4THqwjxw1t0

Here's the stage door the night before the show -- we scoped out where it was beforehand so we'd know where to go after the show.

Here's Corbin, coming out the stage door.

He was really sweet and talked to everyone.

He signed everybody's programs.

And he looked really good in person!

He let people get photos with him, so here he is with my friend Breanna. She was actually wearing four-inch heels, so he looks shorter than he actually is!

Here's the program we got signed by the actors (including Corbin) for my Belgian penpal Celia who's a huge Chyan fan! It was funny because the actress who played Abuela Claudia (who's supposed to be old and forgetful) actually signed our program twice!

I'm convinced our good luck in getting to meet Corbin was related to me wearing my Wildcat bracelet which I hadn't even meant to pack but found in my cosmetics bag. I'm so glad that we got to see Corbin perform -- it was a great show, and I definitely recommend it (for Corbin and non-Corbin fans alike!)

in the heights, corbin bleu
