simply mapping the evolution of black stereotypes in American film. Please tell me you're kidding. That's like dissertation level work, and by that I don't mean it's awesome -- I mean the scope of that as a project is simply absurd. You would be better mapping the evolution of such stereotypes in a particular era of filmmaking, like within Griffith (lots of material from the Biograph shorts to Birth of a Nation to Intolerance to Broken Blossoms, for instance) or classic hollywood or something.
No no no... It's a proposal. I'm not actually doing it. It's a ten page long proposal... My original plan WAS to map out that stereotype within blaxploitation, but I didn't go that route. It's not my final topic, I promise you. Even if it was, it's only a proposal. I'll let you know what my topic will be in a post sometime tomorrow.
We had a discussion about Akira already, but you really do need to see it subbed. Watching an anime dubbed is generally really bad for your opinions of it.
We also talked about why it's still a big deal even if it sucked, so I won't get into that. =3

Originally thought with regards to how it was initially received? I've only seen it once, and I thought it was exceptional. I don't know what time will do to my opinion of the film, but I really enjoyed it when I saw it.

I've heard people say that the movie isn't really as excellent as originally thought. Either way, I'm going to watch it and see what I think.
