The new protocol

Nov 09, 2007 18:17

The meeting this afternoon with my oncologist went rather well. He spent most of our consultation explaining the new chemotherapy protocol that I will begin on Monday. This new treatment is in pill form so I'll be able to take it at home. The side effects are of the usual caliber: nausea, throwing up, drowsiness, dry mouth, fatigue, head aches, ( Read more... )

nausea, throwing up, drowsiness, dry mouth, fatigue, head aches, mouth sores, etc.

I don't know how you do it. Seriously.

Did I complain before? I shouldn't have.

Thanks for ringing though! Sorry I was so short but I was in the middle of cleaning the floors and it is kind of painful to speak at the mo.

no worries - just wanted to make sure you were doing ok-ish. i didn't expect a long convo considering the state of your tonsils.

Stop cleaning woman! Eat some chicken noodle soup and get yourself in bed!!!

Is it bad that I honestly believe of all the horrid side effects you're suffering, I would probably be most upset by the dry mouth? Having a dry mouth upsets me more than anything else I can think of. I can't imagine having all of that at once. Oh Boe.

LOVE.

I don't like dry mouth much either but to be fair, throwing up often results in dry mouth. "Plenty of liquids" I hear from all around me. I shouldn't, hopefully, suffer all those side effects at the same time - they are just potential side effects. If I'm lucky I won't have any of them! :p

LOVE back xoxoxoxo

Yay for an at home protocol! Ick for the side effects.

If radiotherapy is called for later, the reports from some of the women my mom has chatted with in the waiting room is radiotherapy is much easier on them than the chemotherapy was. I know she's fatigued, but has only felt queasy/lost her lunch a couple of times. One of those, she believes was more the fault of greasy fried food for lunch than the therapy. (They stopped an a new place and discovered the menu offered fried, fried, or fried seafood.) Other than that, she said she's been burned once, but it was more of a discomfort than "pain".

Oh all chemo protocols have side effects. My oncologist said that most people do just fine with this treatment so fingers crossed I'll be a part of the majority for once.

Thanks for the radiotherapy heads up. I'll cross that bridge if/when we get there but it's nice to know beforehand what may be round the corner.

I too am pleased to be on a home treatment scheme. I really hope it doesn't make me ill.

I love the fact that when i look at one of your posts I can picture you. *smiles*

I can't actually walk anymore without crying. It's quite pathetic actually. Maman (Froggy's mum) arrived this morning and I was in tears when I finally made it to the door to let her in. Papa has sciatica problems so she's familiar with what I'm dealing with. She's also a volunteer (local Red Cross organisation) so she knows just what to do. For instance, whereas Froggy and I had been applying my hot water bottle and putting me in a hot bath to relieve the pain, she took a ice block from the fridge, wrapped it in a towel and applied it to my thigh and WOW the pain is gone ( ... )

Ha! Boe is my real name. Actually Boe Luen is my middle name.

With stronger pain killers and an anti-inflammatory pill - plus the ice packs, the pain should subside, according to my oncologist, in approximately a week. I truly hope so.

I'm really lucky that maman is here. At least Froggy isn't doing his nut at work worrying how I am. And she's a fantastic knitter so methinks we'll finally be starting the Amélie's blanket project the ninny in me has not had the guts to begin.

Thank you for the hugs, support and the icon! *winks*
