What changes to the NFL rules would you like to see?

Football fans, what rule/play changes would you like to see in the NFL? Please stick with realistic options that would still be recognizable as football. Not "Add trampolines," "Replace the players with bears shooting harpoons," or, "Award two points every time they throw a ball through a hoop ( Read more... )

Hmmmm.

-Allow coaches to challenge a call in the last two minutes
-Get rid of the Tuck Rule
-I agree with your motion for college overtime rules; I think it sucks that winning a coin toss is so crucial with the current NFL rules
-I think you're also onto something with the final minutes of the game because there's nothing more lame than watching the players kneel for a few downs to drain 90 seconds. Five minutes is too much though. I'd say after the two minute warning
-I think getting a touchdown just by hitting a pylon is kind of lame, but whatever
-There's also a crapload of rules at this point regarding control and possession in the endzone and inside the bounds that could use some simplifying, I think. It hurts my brain.

The best overtime rule would be a variant on "you cut I choose". You could flip a coin to see who gets to 'choose'. Then the other team specifies what yard line the offensive team should start from, then the choser gets to pick whether they want to start on defense or offense, then you just play normally from there.

However, you'd need a limit on reviews.

I would want to keep the current red flag rules. Just expand what it's used for.

If bears or trampolines were involved, I might actually watch football.

Nah, those guys can already jump too high. What backetball needs is unicycles and monkeys.

How about bears playing hockey? Will that work for you?

I wish they would only call roughing the kicker and roughing the passer when the hit is actually rough, instead of them barely being touched.

I understand that turns in into a judgement call though, which probably makes it more complicated.

I agree. There was a game last week where a defensive lineman tried to block a kick and ran into the kicker but BARELY and it looked very much like the kicker dramatically fell to get the penalty called. And it worked. It also makes kickers seem that much more weak, which I'm sure they don't want.
