I was gone away for 9 years. To be honest, a lot of things did change for the better in my hometown in 9 years. People have more choices now. Of course corruption is the password to everything above poverty level. One of my co-workers flat out asked me who did I know at the tv station so that I got my job and told me who was the person who got hers ( Read more... )

I find it really interesting that your economic situation is easier in Romania than it was in a country with one of the most powerful economies and highest standards of living in the world. I guess it just goes to show what a large, growing, and mostly insurmountable gap there is between rich and poor, in the States.

But still, even if life in the USA didn't get you ahead financially, I'm sure you had lots of rich, unique life experiences, and that's what matters most, in my books. Those are the real riches.

well, I suppose an economic situation is always helped by who you know ;) certainly I know (or my folks fo) more influential people here than I did in NYC. It's all relative.

I do treasure life experiences too, it's just I guess with age (ahem) comes a sense of entitlement or laziness or less wanting to put up with a lack of comfort... or maybe it's just me ;) if I had to do it again I would do it almost the same way, but I have a feeling I would still complain about certain things, hehe.
