I was gone away for 9 years. To be honest, a lot of things did change for the better in my hometown in 9 years. People have more choices now. Of course corruption is the password to everything above poverty level. One of my co-workers flat out asked me who did I know at the tv station so that I got my job and told me who was the person who got hers

But still, even if life in the USA didn't get you ahead financially, I'm sure you had lots of rich, unique life experiences, and that's what matters most, in my books. Those are the real riches.

I do treasure life experiences too, it's just I guess with age (ahem) comes a sense of entitlement or laziness or less wanting to put up with a lack of comfort... or maybe it's just me ;) if I had to do it again I would do it almost the same way, but I have a feeling I would still complain about certain things, hehe.
