my parents also bought my dumb candy bars and you know what? after about the 2nd year of having to sell those types of things for my band/drill team/junior class..etc.. i just stopped caring. it really didn't phase me if i was 'last in sales'. it'd be cheaper for the parents to give their children 10$'s or go find a 5lb bag of gummy bears and give it to them as their reward for NOT selling the crappy stuff :p

I completely agree. There is no school spirit by selling candy bars or other stupid trinkets. If one child came to my door and asked for a check written out to his class I wouldn't think twice about $25. No trinkets, food products or candy...that is at least worth $25.

If the school did this, then offered pencils, rulers, pendants, and t-shirts to the children who comes in with the most donations. These schools would receive more money then they have ever seen. This would encourage school spirit. This would keep me from having to buy another dust collector for my home. That alone is worth $50 at least!

By the By, Great to see you here! Didn't really think you read my journal! LOL!

when i was on the dance team we had a yearly 'car wash' and we didn't say '10$/car' - we said .. we accept donations but the carwash is free. we'd get anywhere from 20-100 dollars for the car wash! much better :p
