I was walking around in Berlin , and something that just struck me is along with the massive , greco roman buildings sat there war torn history. the history of gestapo. there were buildings with bullet marks that chose to let those wounds show. there were homes where parts were bombed out , and they put up a small board commemorating those who ( Read more... )

That's the best thing about Europe - there's a lot of history well preserved here.
They don't just go about ruining their cities' architecture by concrete eyesores.
I identify with that feeling of trying to re-construct their lives... Mankind seems capable of the worst that could ever be.

On a more pleasant note, what brings you to Berlin?? I've been planning my backpacking trip across Europe for ages. Might settle on a cycling tour of Spain though.

I was in berlin for work.. a conference on labour and one on corporate social responsibility.. so that.. you should do a backpacking trip, it would be nice to cycle, even walking would be great fun if you ask me.. spain sounds interesting..
