I really need to choose someone to ask to write my second recommendation letter. I would prefer that that person be a social studies teacher, so I think I have four options ( Read more... )

That's a frustrating situation. Safran and Perez both strike me as people who would be excellent at recommendation writing; however, it is fairly early in the year for a new teacher who is just getting to know you to write an honest recommendation. How well do you know them? have you done any extracurriculars with them? I asked Mirsky to write me a recommendation at about this time my senior year, and she politely declined because she didn't know me well enough. There was no harm in asking, though :) Other than pride... which we all know is quite a decent deterrent indeed :P

I didn't have Alvich, but from what I've heard from my brother and Tylar and Josh Glatt and others, Alvich doesn't seem like the best sort to write a recommendation...

All in all, go with who knows you the best. Even if it's not a social studies teacher, as long as it's someone who really knows your academic quality and also something about your character.

Also, I'm way too into this college admissions process still... wow :P

I hear that perez is a good teacher to ask for a recommendation. I'm sure that if one day you spend like 20 or so minutes talking to her about other things outside of classwork she'll know enough about you (b/c you are allie after all) to make you sound awsome. I never had her though, but that is what I heard

i'd say Perez. i would recommend to go to her afterschool and just talk to her, and then ask her to write your recommendation.

I asked Anderson to write my recommendation without ever having had her before AP English 4, and her letter ultimately got me into NYU ( ... )

I'd also say Perez. I had Safran senior year and he's a little odd, whereas Perez is just flat out reliably great.
