Back to working today. Bleah. Only 8 months to go, however, so I guess I can live with that. Currently reading Seminary Boy, by an English author and taking place in the 50's and 60's as the poverty-stricken 13 year old is sent to a monastic-type school and comes into his own. As always, reading like a fool. Recently finished The End of the Affair, by Graham Greene. Excellent writing, particularly about writing (heh). Upon mature reflection (that would be two days), I see that the book is in fact quite a strong polemic for the R.C. faith. This isn't immediately apparent, but it certainly becomes clear at the end. Absolutely besotted for a bit with Jodi Picoult, which is kind of maybe sort of declasse of me, but who cares? Read My Sister's Keeper, a killer of a book (no pun intended), The Pact, about teenage suicide and the intertwining of two lives. All about the takeover of a South American country (loosely based on the takeover of the Peruvian Embassy several years ago), in which a Japanese executive, the Vice President of the country, and a famous, very talented opera singer are mistakenly among the hostages. Okay, I admire Adlai Stevenson as much as anyone not able to vote back in 52 and 56 can. I think he was a great and very intelligent fellow. However, I have a bit of a problem with the Dems current mantra of "What we need is another Adlai Stevenson." Umm...noooooooo, that really isn't what's needed. Have our home to ourselves for 2 days........hurray! Then will celebrate hub's b'day with oldest daughter on Friday night and actual day, Saturday. Then back to ourselves for a bit.
