I first tried deleting and then re down loading the patches, if the repair exe file doesn't solve the problem. If that fails begin the uninstall re-install process, which takes forever I might add but does solve the problem :)

Hope this helps!

if using the repir exe file doesn't work then try re downloading; if all else fails uninstall then reinstall

I'm no computer tech, but the last time I had an Issues with PC turning itself off and having to reboot like that i was the PC not a program, now as I said I am not a comp tech (only married to one) but it sounds like a very familiar problem that I had one time, I will look in to and see if I can find anything out that may help.

The exact same thing happened when you were defragging?

I assume you are using Win XP?

Does it happen any other time other than patching and defragging?

------------------
If the answer to the above questions is - yes/correct/no - then try this:

1) Take the case off - point a fan directly inside and try the defrag. (if you don't have a fan handy, try it with just the case off)

If that works, then something is overheating. (probably the processor)

Check and make sure the CPU heat sink fan is not broken.

--------------------------------
More questions - especially if the fan thing doesn't work:

1) Is the HDD (hard disk drive) making any noises? Particularly a grinding?

2) Have you updated video drivers recently?
