 A picket line at NorWesCon?

um..  WTF?

We're going to be crossing a picket line in full costume?  Is this... I mean, who will be there to feed us crappy food at the over-priced cafe?

And then, are we, like, on purpose not getting rooms at Duoble Tree because of the ( Read more... )

The picture is misleading. There is no strike, it's a boycott. The union, the hotel, and ConCom are all in communication about it. There is no picket line.

See this post in norwescon for the official word from ConCom.

There is a post in the LJ norwescon community. THey are not on strike, and the hotel is sold out. THey aren't actually asking the con goers to boycott, but there will be support the union buttons available to wear if you want to. The con com is also watching the proceedings to make sure they settle nicely, or there may be ramifications for next year. Here's the post http://community.livejournal.com/norwescon/127639.html

Personally, I am under-enthused about attending Norwescon this year due to the fact that there aren't going to be any room parties. The panels are nice and all, but the parties and the people I get to interact with there are the real reason I go every year. I'm angry with the Doubletree's new management for the crap they've been pulling, not just on Norwescon but with the hotel in general. I'm not going to buy a room. I'm going to ghost it, visit with the people I only get to see once a year, then go home.

You mean no "mega" room parties. There still will be the smaller ones, just no Biohazard and Merchants of Deva. Instead it will be, well, more like most Science Fiction cons.

I fail to be disappointed. But then I was never much for being in a crowded room where the main point is getting drunk.

Oh, none of *those* parties... whew. For a minute there, I was concerned.

Sorry if my post wasn't clear. :) I wouldn't cross a picket line, but as I was trying to say, Concom's been in touch with the union and is working with them. If it were to go to a real strike, then I wouldn't go.
