It's February 15 and it's been 3 weeks since I (and Eric) had the flu. I'm still coughing up stuff, still feeling muscular weakness and fatigued in general. I had a bit of a scare earlier in the week, Monday night I think. I was sitting with Gus and working on his homework with him on the computer when I got really lightheaded and my eyes lost ( Read more... )

*laughs* Turning 50 was easy, 55 was a bad year for me, I will be glad to turn 56 next month. Just out of curiosity, how is your blood sugar? That weird vertigo feeling is what happens to me when my blood sugar gets too low. As to getting healthy and losing weight, what has been working for me is just watching the carbs, 45 carbs for breakfast, 45-60 carbs for each meal and two healthy snacks, be sure to get in at least five servings of veggies and three fruits a day. Of course the chemo helped with weight loss as I could not eat for days, but the carb thing is still working, I am 5 lbs heavier then when I originally met John 16 years ago! Course I still want to lose some more weight, but I am doing over 70 pounds from my all time high.

Most of all, be gentle with yourself in the process, I want you around for a very long time :)

Thanks Julia. I'm glad to see your health is getting better too! And what really works for me is portion control. If I follow that I lose weight.

hi, Julia. i didn't realize you went through cancer. you hinted at something like that on a recent post of mine, but i wasn't sure. how is that going? (sorry to start this thread on your wall, Victorria...i'm rusty in the ways of LJ etiquette.)

Hey Brian, its been an interesting year, I was diagnosed with breast and uterine cancer in May 2012, had five surgeries in total, chemo and radiation, it wasn't pleasant, but it was an journey to understand healing as well as lots of other spiritual things. Still glad to be on the other side of it and in recovery.

it's good you're getting it checked out.

If you had a lot of congestion, it might have been inner ear problems too. I am CONSTANTLY congested there (if you swallow and hear a click...*bingo*) and on a couple of occasions it's been bad enough to cause vertigo. (that's what I am assuming it was, so take it with a grain of salt :D )

health scares blow chunks. i'm glad you're following up with the doctor. we have health insurance for a reason!

i've started to have to face this reality of aging, too. i'm a decade younger than you are, but the signs started appearing a couple years ago (my thighs suddenly stopped being firm on their own volition and i must now reign them in constantly, which i don't always do a good job of doing). i've also noticed how much harder it is to lose weight once i start exercising again. oh, it still happens...it just takes a lot longer than it used to.

i think i'm going to have to make some diet changes soon, like cutting down on the dairy. and pizza is going to have to be put in its place, too. but most importantly i need to step up my exercise routine. that's really the very best thing for me. it has tons of health benefits.

but it ain't easy, sister! but I know you can and will do what you need to do to take care of yourself. so that you live a long long time (healthy!) to be around for those darling boys of yours.
