Japanese beetles haven't reached this part of Kansas yet. We are so fortunate! However, it is just a matter of time, I'm afraid. I'll enjoy my roses while I may.
I love dahlias, but I can't grow them. It gets too hot here. I suppose if I put an umbrella over them daily and doused them in water, I might coax one into living, but ain't nobody got time for that! Somehow, I didn't get any geraniums this year. Are your dahlias and geraniums annuals or perennials? They are annuals here.

I regard them as something between the two - mild winters and they survive until next year, hard winters and they don't! A couple of geraniums have overwintered but the dahlias are new this year.
I've taken a few pictures, I'll post them sometime in the next couple of days.
Such beautiful roses (and other flowers)! You must be very proud of your efforts. Do they smell good? Many of the new roses have little or no smell at all, which seems a shame.
Our yard smells so delicious! I try to choose roses that have fragrance. You're right that, for many years looks trumped everything else. Now, hybridizers are focusing more on health and fragrance, which makes me very happy. Sometimes, a rose is just too good to pass by, even though it doesn't have fragrance. At other times, the rose doesn't appear to be fragrant to me even though others tout it to be so. Right now, my Aloha is so utterly delicious, I don't want to work very far away from her.

I had them devour my rose bushes... have you had a problem,
and if so, what did you do.

Things are nice and lush this time of year. It doesn't last. That's why I enjoy every minute of it now.
