I want a laptop

I've been looking to get a laptop for portable gaming and internet purposes (and potentially for school once I go back to college). I'm considering an ASUS F3Jm, which I can buy for $1400. Here's a link to a page with some specifications and stuff. If there's anyone who is tech-saavy, let me know if this will be adequate ( Read more... )

The reviews are good, but few. ASUS is a solid brand - I'd say go for it, if you really want to spend that much on a laptop. If you're not planning to travel with it though you can build a much more powerful desktop machine for the same amount of money or less.

The key factor *is* that I'll be travelling with it. I travel to Massachusetts very often, and bringing my desktop down every time, although doable (I've done it a few times), is cumbersome. I'll probably work on upgrading my desktop to work more with digital art and graphics when I move my gaming to a laptop as my next project.

ON second thought, reading through the reviews, the machine looks more solid than I gave it credit for. However, my original comment still stands - it's a good laptop for the money, although a) you can do cheaper I think and b) desktops are more power for less money.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16834220037 - comparable, probably games nearly as well, and is 500 bucks cheaper.

If you're going to spend that kind of money on a laptop, why not a mac? You can get a new g4 powerbook on ebay now for the same price.

I just vehemently hate PCs. I'll admit it.

I think I'm gonna change my desktop to a mac for illustration work as my next upgrade, and probably sell my old computer in the process. It's a pity I can't still get a free copy of Photoshop from MassArt... that's more expensive than some computers are.

Tom, don't freaking buy a Mac. That company is so freaking evil. I guarantee you that you will wind up spending twice as much as you would on a PC, unless you plan to buy ALL the accesories on ebay ( ... )
