really bloody pathetic.

I really hate most jrock "fans". Particularly visual kei "fans". I'm tired of them citing Dir en grey as a major influence on every other band under the sun, just because the band happens to sing in fucking Japanese. I'm also constantly agitated by the assertions that the Gazette is the next biggest, most influential band in the visual rock scene ( Read more... )

rotfl. To be perfectly honest, I seen the picture without even reading your blog and I didnt even notice the military suit likeness until I read that you pointed it out. I know exactly what you mean about the lingering so-called Dir en Grey 'influence.' I've seen some pretty stupid shit.

Like Girugamesh being a Dir en Grey rip off, or MUCC going in the direction of Dir en Grey. -________-; But don't you dare question a Dir en Grey fan's logic. Those bitches think they have the powers to fucking defy gravity.

I agree in most of what you said, except of that there are not more than 6 good vocalists in VK scene, but that's imho a matter of taste. But I know what you mean. Many Japanese vocalists really sound... uhm yea, but I think that's also because the Japanese style of singing is just... different. Dunno how to describe it.

But it's really annoying how so many fans are only comparing everyone and everything. I mean, there's a point where you can't be that original or unique anymore. And why should a band obsessively try to be that different? That's just stupid oO

Sometimes I really feel pissed, because I can't call myself VK-fan without feeling embarassed, cause they make the whole scene look ridiculous. In my school/town so many people have billions of prejudices about Japanese music and especially VK ~_~

(Sry for any mistakes, my english is not that good..)

I'm not talking about what vocalists a fan prefers (because THAT'S where the matter of taste comes in), what I'm talking about is technique, range, skill when it comes to singing. Things that you can judge concretely. It's like, either the vocalist has breathing problems or they don't. Either they have an actual range or they don't. I'm saying that there are only about six technically proficient vocalists in visual kei.

But there are quite a few good vocalists as well (ones who show promise, but haven't quite perfected their skills).

FACT:

-Dir en grey fans will accuse every other band of ripping off Dir en grey

and

-Dir en grey haters will compare any band they don't like to Dir en grey

in conclusion I hate everyone. :(

Okay, as a Dir en grey fan I can see where you are coming from, both points. There are many who will blatantly act that way and they don't represent the fanbase really positively.

Here's a a little something though that I discovered on my own

Viored clearly stole distinct elements from Dir en grey, for example:

1) The intro to Taste of Heartless is from Clever Sleazoid

2) Their song Kasumi has Hades by Dir en grey, and quite a bit of it.

3) And the song Kimikage Kusa has the intro to Red...[EM] followed by Dir en grey's Kasumi.

And with regards to them being Gazette rip-offs apparently it is more warranted than just "image"
Apparently the song Kusabi is a direct rip-off of The $ocial Riot Machine$ but I have yet to verify the similarities myself.

Oh, and in addition to the Viored song Kasumi having Hades, it also features the guitar lines from Raison D'etre

If looking at the picture alone, I can almost see what they might be talking about, if you go by really purely visuals. Little bits here and there that I suppose could be used to compare them but... shouldn't? Like, Uruha aaalways has his hair flipped out, and "OMG lookit that guy! He has his hair flipped out too!" That kinda thing.

But I do hate how everyone feels the need to compare everything though. And most of it by visuals only too. I mean, yeah, they're visual bands, so visuals are important. But more than anything, they're a band. Even without the visuals, they'd still be a band, and that's the important part. Without the band, they'd just be a bunch of guys dressed in funny clothes. ~____~;; And even if their sound has similarities, I honestly don't think it's that big of a deal... Sure, they could be influenced by Dir en grey. Dir en grey is a huge band afterall, and everyone knows them. But I don't think it's needed to have that be the definition of a new band just because they might sound slightly similar. Lots of people ( ... )

I agree with pretty much the entirety of your second paragraph. I hate how people zero in on looks and dismiss bands for such trivial things as not being pretty enough, or more original looking etc. I mean, I thought the whole point of being a fan of a band implied enjoying their music. But obviously I'm so in the wrong here.

I'm not surprised out all about the J-rock fangirls. They're now just like the newbie fans of every other music genre, such as metal, punk, hip hop and electronic. I guess that mean *silver lining-no-jutsu!* that VK has reached a point where it won't just disappear from US anytime soon.

Anyways!

I think everyone needs to see that list. Yes, a list and a song sample from each vocalist so we can be like "*nods head*...mhm, word, this chick is on point. She ain't talkin' bout no ducktales."
