You ever have one of those days where nothing seems to go your way? Like all of a sudden you've inherited this plague or really bad hygiene because people are purposely ignoring you? Which Arizona was sure wasn't the case because she would know if she had the plague, and frankly she never smelled bad. But that was how the past 11 days had been. That's right, 11 days. 11 days with no nookie, no irrational actions, no kisses in bathrooms. Nothing. Nada. Zilch.
The only person who seemed to still want to speak to her was Mark, and even though she generally insulted him, she was thankful because being alone all the time was never her thing. She wasn't that “emo” girl who stood underneath the bleachers or didn't have plans on a Friday night. No, she was Arizona freaking Robbins and it wasn't fair that in a hospital where running into coworkers is inevitable, she hadn't seen Lexie or Callie. Seriously, what gives? She wasn't a monster nor did she smell bad, Arizona didn't deserve this kind of treatment.
Okay, well maybe she did from Lexie but that was beside the point. She had tried calling Lexie every day since that night but she never answered. She swung by her apartment, talked to other interns, she was even bold enough to speak to Meredith. Which turned out to be a bad idea because the girl just happened to stare right through Arizona like she was non-existent, then mumbled some incoherent sentence about Meredith not caring. The girl had serious issues, and Arizona got the heeby jeebies just from standing next to her.
So Arizona did the last thing she had known to do, she had gossiped, or tried. But apparently gossiping took some sort of skill, because whenever she tried to gossip at the nurse’s station, she always got stares, she even tried her egg joke but the nurses just walked away. So now she resorted to pretending to fill out a chart while eaves dropping over a pair of nurse’s conversation. Arizona was pretty sure all dignity she had evaporated a long time ago. It was times like these that she wished she was 5. Things were always simpler when your 5, all you care about is candy and pretty girls. Oh, and rainbows! She couldn't forget about the rainbows.
"I was walking by the janitor closet when I heard crying." Arizona leaned closer as she tried to catch the nurse’s hushed voices. What were their names again? Rose and...Charlotte! Kind of like that book, with the pig, and the spider and the...wait. She was getting off topic.
"Really? Did Dr. Hahn make someone cry again?" Charlotte whispered as she glanced around, not paying notice to Arizona. Like she had said, people were ignoring her now.
"Surprisingly no. In fact it was that Little Grey girl." Rose responded. Lexie, her name was Lexie!
'Really?" Was that the only word in this girl’s vocabulary or something?
"Yeah, apparently she's been in there every day for the past 11 days. All she does is cry, she barely speaks unless she's forced too, and when she does she says the weirdest things too. I heard the other day Gretchen offered her a donut and the poor girl burst into tears." Charlotte whispered as she grabbed a chart.
"I heard it's because she realized she was gay." Rose frantically nodded her head. People don't cry when they realize their gay. Do people cry when they realize their straight?
"I heard it's because that new Ped's surgeon broke her heart. They were together when she tried sleeping with Dr. Torres but that failed, so she ran off with Mark Sloan." Who the hell would believe that?
"Those McWhores." What?! WHAT?!
Arizona glanced down quickly at her chart as Rose and Charlotte walked away, still whispering in hushed voices to each other. The glare she could handle, even the whispering she could handle, but her running off with Mark? Let's not get irrational here. Arizona placed the chart down, and placed her head in her hands, this was turning out to be such a big fiasco.
"Hey Blondie, what's crackin’?" Mark said as he slid in next to her at the nurse’s station. She was glad Mark was her friend when everyone else treated her like she had grown another head, and it was Sarah Palin, but right now, she wanted him to go away. Far, far, away.
"We’re McWhores." Arizona mumbled in her hands.
"What?" You heard her!
"McWhores. That's what people are calling us." Arizona lifted her head to look Mark in the eyes, who suprisingly enough was grinning. He formed his hand into a fist and placed it in front of Arizona. Wasn't he as appalled as her?
"Pound it." Pound what?
"Pound what Mark?" Mark continued to grin at her, which really only made her want to pound him, then eat a donut because now she was craving them. Dammit.
"My fist. Because you finally have a Mc-nickname, it's worth celebrating and I couldn't be prouder. First what we can do is get you a name tag, and oh! I can get you some of this conditioner that Derrick uses to keep his hair all shiny like that. Ow!" Arizona smacked Mark on the back of his head. This was no joking manner! The man-whore was not allowed to be proud of turning her into him.
"I need to fix this Mark." She really, really did. Or she was going to have to continue having lunch in a bathroom stall because she can't handle the stared from EVERYONE, and the bathroom stalls didn't smell good either.
"Okay. Team McWhores are on the case. If all else fails, we can always sleep with someone."
Arizona smacked Mark again.
“That was a joke, it was a joke!” Mark exclaimed as Arizona’s hand connected with his head again. She didn’t really understand why she hit him so much. Maybe it was a reflex; maybe his head was just extremely hittable. Either way Arizona knew that she wouldn’t be able to get out of this situation without him. But she also knew that she wouldn’t have been in this situation if it weren’t for him.
So basically she was screwed.
