So today I call my work to tell them I can't pull my shift at 4 because I have too much school work due tomorrow and I can't do both. I get on the horn with dept. manager Jason, and when I inform him of this, he flips on the lundbergh voice and proceeds to patronize me. he goes, "oh ho hooo, so the guy who's always asking for more hours is calling

aww don't let him get to you, his job is to make you feel like an asshole to deter from his assholishness.

He might have meant that a lot of other people do what you did, not that you do it all the time.

Also I bet the reason he was patronizing you was that you are going to school so that you can get a good job while his career involves being the manager of one department of a grocery store so he has to let that minuscule amount of power go to his head because he realizes that soon you are going to be 35 years old strolling into Harris Teeter asking for your provolone to be cut into thin slices and he will have to stand there and take it.
