I took Astrid back to the vet this morning because she was dragging both feet, and it turns out she has ruptured a disc in her back. She is in surgery as we speak, with a 65% chance of recovery. Any kind of doggie thoughts or prayers you can send into the universe will be appreciated. We won't know if she'll be able to walk again for a few days ( Read more... )

Thank you, Stephanie. And your other comment helped a lot--it is good to know that other people feel the same way about their little animals.

Oh, Carrie! I am so sorry! But you're the best dog mom I know, and you can't blame yourself for any of this -- you did everything you were supposed to do!!! I'm sure Astrid is going to be fine and I am sending good thoughts your way.

I can't stop thinking of all the extra things I could have done, though.

Thank you for the good thoughts. I hope they work.

M'kitties and I are thinking positive, healing, protective thoughts for you and Miss Astrid. I haven't been Catholic in decades, but when it comes to my pets and their well being, I often talk to St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals. He was always my favorite, and I don't see a problem with asking him for some help, just in case, you know, I'm wrong about the whole religion thing. I mentioned Astrid, and her love of my toes, because I hope she gets well soon and that you can find some peace while you wait for results.

Thank you, Shannon. I hope Astrid will be able to lick your toes again soon. Maybe the combined force of you, the kitties, and Saint Francis will be what she needs to help her get better.

My heart aches for you and Astrid. I too will talk to St. Francis for you as oddly enough, I am a praying person. All kinds of positive vibes and love coming your way from Swaziland and no it is not your fault even though that won't help you feel better; I still want you to know. Will you be able to visit her in the hospital while she is there? If they say no, don't even worry about the number of calls you can make to check on her.

I can start visiting her on Monday, they said. My Dad said it might upset her for me to visit her, and then leave, which I kind of get, but I don't think I can stand not to see her for five days when I know she is hurt and confused. I have never left her in a strange place before.

And thank you... it does help to know that my friends care and love me and understand.
