I took Astrid back to the vet this morning because she was dragging both feet, and it turns out she has ruptured a disc in her back. She is in surgery as we speak, with a 65% chance of recovery. Any kind of doggie thoughts or prayers you can send into the universe will be appreciated. We won't know if she'll be able to walk again for a few days ( Read more... )

Oh poor baby!

My parents have a mini dachshund who had the same problem a few years ago. He beat it just like Astrid is going to! He had to be very, very still for several weeks so he was sedated and confined to his crate a lot. But now he's doing pretty well. Just a flare-up now and then. He's 12 years old now. He also beat an unfortunate case of heart worms in his early years. Weenie dogs are a tough breed.

Thank you, Janet. It makes me feel better to hear that other dogs have been able to recover. I'm also glad to hear that your parents' dog is OK.
