Any of you computer savvy people out there know much about external hard drives? I'm looking to get one to back up files, and store some music (a lot of music). I was just looking at Best Buy to get some price ideas, but realize I know nothing about reliable brands, or even the possibility of getting a cheaper one somewhere. Peace, love and ( Read more... )

Hey gorgeous -

I have a Western Digital 500G external hard drive. It's super easy to use and there's plenty of room. I've had issues with my laptop overheating and randomly shutting down lately ... and I think running iTunes (using mp3s off the external hard drive) probably has a lot to do with it. I don't know. Anyway, you've got a shiny new Mac so I don't think you should have a problem. I also got mine on the cheap at Best Buy during a sale (like $100, I think). They go on sale occasionally. You can also check overstock.com or ask Jerry ... he knows all the sooper seekrit internets hook-ups. :)

Miss you!

I don't know much about external drives, but have you considered getting a DVD burner and back up files on those. You can store alot on a DVD data disk. Plus, you'd have a burner. Just a thought. I usually back stuff up on those disks, but then lose them. (That's the downside.) :o)

Hey Logan! You definitely want a Western Digital MyBook, they're all the rage. Also, they randomly go on sale ALL the time. Just check the solicits for Best Buy and Circuit City each Sunday, and in a month or two you'll have one at a decent price. I would look for a 500GB.
