Though I do have to say that I'd call the tea bag people tea baggers no matter what beliefs they exposed, mostly because saying tea baggers makes me happy. In fact, if I agreed, I'd call myself a tea bagger.

Hi, my name is shadow and I'm a rabid tea bagger.

I'll stop being a 10 year old boy now.

There is not one single innocent religious organization in the entire world. Not one.

Baha'i? Quakers?

I have no doubt, Ron, that if you look within the close quarters of those religions, you'll find that human evil the larger, powerful ones turn outward into the world, are actually turned inward on one another.

In fact, it's fairly documented within the Quaker sect.

I won't speak on Baha'i, but I would guarantee that plenty of ill has been done unto other practitioners by their fellow believers. It's the way humans are wired.

a friend of mine wrote something awhile back about freedom of speech/thought/etc and that what most people mean when they champion such a thing is, freedom to express yourself when it's something they agree with.

it certainly can be a fine line, and the only thing i can hope is that if someone disagrees with me, they are level headed enough not to be hurt by it and will not feel afraid or too defensive to say so.

Your friend was talking precisely what I had in mind.

My closest friends and I, as you and I have said before, are all over the map. I'm not "in line" with any of them, right or left. But we don't argue when we discuss politics, we just discuss. And we've all changed one another slowly, in some ways, by offering well reasoned or passionate insight.

And we still love each other.

Besides, you know I, at least, would call shenanigans on you. >: P

Also, I think that part of the reason I haven't confronted some is because we're really more acquaintances at this stage of our lives and it's easier to just drop them. Others? Because we're close enough for a battle and I know them well enough to know that it would be a battle.

I just can't argue publicly for obvious reasons (I'm sort of in the military and they frown on that being chief among them) with anyone.

Anyone else, obviously, I would say something. Because it wouldn't be a battle and they mean more to me than just the fact that we shared a play date when we were two.

Pretty eloquent. Far more eloquent than I am.
Not to mention I have to agree with you on that one.
