that is interesting. sort of makes sense since formulas have extra iron and there is a higher incidence of SIDs w/ formula fed babies.

I read an interesting tid-bit regarding SIDS. I read that one should now have their baby use a pacifier because it somehow reduces SIDS. Who knows. I just find it funny how we are told "OH NO! NEVER use a pacifier!" and then we are told "OH NO! Use a pacifier or your baby my die!"

Makes me roll my eyes, you know?

Yeah - the paccifier bit came out last year I think. I guess as they learn more through the studies, the advice will change to fall in line with that. That's pretty true for all things though.

It really is true for all things. We have different advice than our mothers had. Our children will have different advice than we have. It will be funny to see how we "scoff" at how our children do it. We may say, "in our day... "

I agree with you. Benjamin rejected a pacifier after 2-3 weeks and we actually tried to push it because he was fussy and we were exhausting options. I guess my point is that one seems weird too because there are plenty of non-pacifier babies who do just fine.

In my non-scientific opinion there may be a reason for SIDS and there may not. I have read that some people think these babies never really breathed as well as the average baby so it is a matter of time for some. That would be sad but could be true. I think eliminating things like excess blankets eliminates suffocation but was that actually SIDSs? Why is it a newer thing? More babies are being born and more births are healthy so there are more babies? A lot to think about.
