That's not even the worst part. I read on another article that of the new textbooks approved by their board of education, three have absolutely NO mention of birth control and one makes a fleeting reference to condoms, but other than that their health books reinforce the completely useless idea of abstinence. When will these people step into reality???

Oh, and even worse, the same lady who pushed for those marriage definition changes also wanted them to add this part: "Opinions vary on why homosexuals, lesbians and bisexuals as a group are more prone to self-destructive behaviors like depression, illegal drug use, and suicide." What a twisted, prejudiced bitch. Now let's watch the teen pregnancy rate in Texas shoot up...

try the whole damned country.
i love how republicans want to illiminate abortion, but b/c of their "religious" views want to do nothing to lessen the abortion needed, if they CARED about abortion really, they'd care about sex ed. more kids understand there option, less kids get unplanned pregnancies.
make birth control more afordable, and easier to get w/out parental consent, more girls would use it, and less girls would get pregnant cuz of asshole boyfriends who don't use condoms, etc.
people have sex, illiminating abortion does'nt iliminate unplanned pregnancies/unwanted pregnancies!!
*end rant not directed at you obviously, just anger in general*

Exactly...I always refer to the driving scenario. Driving is very dangerous. It can get you killed or injured. But do people walk around saying people should never drive if they don't want to get killed? NO. They teach people how to drive safely and educate them about the rules of the road and how to be a cautious driver and to wear their seatbelt. The same should go for sex -- they have to understand that they can preach abstinence up to our ears but kids JUST AREN'T GOING TO LISTEN. Ever. People were getting pregnant in their teens even in the fifties when sex was a huge taboo, but people still did it! Abstinence education just doesn't work.

first iwould like to say that i think that's agreat analogy.

secondly, the funny part is that i just sat here laughing as i read that b/c i can picture you yelling that to some ignorant, close minded individual (which brought back all of the memories from the commons when everyone got into political debates).

good times, good times.

I'm a conservative republican and it makes me sick, too. Some people are so damnably prejudiced that they can't see that just because their religious belief says something, doesn't mean it extends to the governmental law, which is outside of religious jurisdiction. If they want religion to rule the nation, form your own damn theocracy elsewhere.

I agree also...I can understand giving parents the option to keep their kids out of sex ed classes, that's their prerogative.
