Kurt Vonnegut once wrote that writers/novelists are people that hate writing.

Writing is seriously such a difficult process. My short story for English class took over a month, and after that I'm reluctant to try writing something "serious" again.

I come across the same problems when I try to write. How do you express a feeling or abstract concept without being heavy-handed?

If you haven't I'd actually suggest reading some Kurt Vonnegut. His verse is so real and seemingly effortless, yet he sets up these elaborate allegories to describe things he's experienced and discovered in life. You've probably read some of his novels, but if you haven't, just comment back and I'll lend you one of his novels.

Hey Alex, thanks for the suggestion. I've never read anything by him. But he wrote Slaughterhouse Five, right? If you want to lend it to me I'm all for it --- I'll probably see you sometime later this summer when Robert gets back from his trip or something? =)

And, yeah. I think I struggle with that every time I do any kind of creative writing - so frustrating! Are you doing an English major at UCSB? I'm doing Lit/Writing...so...you can imagine. That will be a.lot.of.writing. Excited?
