Chapter 3 :
It’s almost one week after the incident. Yamada never at home after that. Chinen actually feel ashamed to admit it, but, she missed on Yamada. The kiss is only to prove that she is trully in love with him. Although it’s hurt to hear Yamada call another woman's name at the time, but the memory of the kiss itself is still very clear in her memory. Each time she remembers it, she feels embarrassed and to make it worse, she actually like it.
"Yuri, what’s wrong? Why your faces suddenly become red?" Yusuke said. Today, Saturday morning, and they have breakfast together.
"Uh, no nothing. Just I feel little heat in this room." Chinen shook head.
"Oh I forgot, Yuya just calling. He asked about you. He said you have an appointment with him?"
Gosh, I forgot. Chinen flapped her forehead. She was supposed to go from last week. That kiss really makes her lost some memory. For one week she almost did not remember what she had done, they just pass by.
"Yes, grandpa. This afternoon I’ll go there. I better call him after this."
"I was thinking, actually what is Ryosuke doing? Yesterday I called him. He said there was some important business in Paris. Why would he get there? We have no business there. Unless ..." Yusuke look like thinking about something.
"What is it?"
"No, that's okay. Well, send my hello to Yuya. Tell him when he will have a fiancee? His playboy habit must be stopped." Yusuke smiled.
"Sure, grandpa."

Now Chinen stand in front of Yuya’s apartment. She come with her best friend, Daiki. Daiki is her best friend from childhood when they were together in Hokkaido. This 5 year they’re rarely met because Daiki moving and studying in Tokyo. But, now that Chinen is also moving to the same university with her, they were always together. Daiki is the only friend who knows all Chinen’s secrets. Chinen did not have any secrets to her. Even the story of the kiss she get, Daiki knows about it. From her advice, Chinen have the courage to find out the story of Yamada’s past.
Chinen knocked on the door.
"Welcome Yuri." Yuya opened the door and welcoming her.
"May I invite my friend, Yuya? She can be trusted, I assure you."
"You mean this beautiful woman?” Yuya looked at Daiki. "Of course." He gaves her his best smile.
Daiki rolled her eyes. "Do you think your lame technique will succeed, Takaki? Your reputation already spread among our campuses. You're one of our senpai who are always get warned from Senate for your playboy act. I hate guy like you." Daiki said.
Yuya's smile disappeared. "Ah, my reputation is already tainted from the first. But, I can change, as long as I meet the right girl."
"Bullshit."
Yuya just smiled wryly. "Wait a minute. I'll take something first. I'll show you while I explain everything." Yuya go to his room.
Yuya returned with a stack of photo albums and handed it to Chinen. Chinen opened one of the album. In inside she saw many Yamada’s photo with a beautiful woman.
"So, this is Mirai chan." She muttered.
"Ah, you know her name?"
"I overheard Yamada calling her." Chinen tries to hide her sad eyes, remembered the previous incident.
"So really Yama chan until now have not been able to forget her. That's why he went to Paris yesterday, too." Yuya whispered.
"What? I don’t understand" Chinen said.
"No, that's okay. Well, I better tell you now. You're right, women in the photographs is Shida Mirai, Yama chan ex-fiancee. They've been together for 2 years before getting engaged two years ago. They are great couple and love each other. You can see in the pictures, they both look very happy."
True, in the photos Yamada always smiling or laughing. And Yamada's handsome now, but Yamada who in this photo more amazing. His face was free of worries, and laughter really made him look very handsome. Just see the picture can make Chinen’s heart beat faster. Her face flushed.
"You must know it." Yuya continued. "Yama chan now never laugh again, his smile is fake. He's changed too much since Mirai gone." He sighed.
"Mirai's gone?" Chinen asked.
"Well, Mirai is my friend too. A year ago she was finally finished college in Paris, when the incident occurred. At that time she was there in college for her final exams, and Yama chan can’t leave Tokyo for business. Whereas, they have plan to celebrate their third year relationship. Mirai tried to convince him to postpone the celebration until next day, because her exam start at night, and she thinks Yama chan also must have been tired to continue to wait until midnight. "
"But, Yama chan refused the idea. He wants Mirai to take the last plane to Tokyo that night. He was preparing a surprise for Mirai, and Yama chan doesn’t want to postpone it. He doesn’t want to hear any rejection. Mirai chan finally surrender and agree to go home. But, then a bad things happened. The plane crashed and falls into the sea carrying all of the passengers. Until now some of the passengers are still missing, and Mirai including one of them. Paris government itself has announced that Mirai was dead, but Yama chan wouldn’t believe it. He's still trying to find her."
"So, that's why he went to Paris?" Chinen said.
"Yeah, probably something to do with his quest for Mirai’s state."
"I'm competing with memories. There's no way I can win Yamada’s heart." Chinen sighed.
"I think you can. Watching him for long time, I think it’s not love which causes him can’t forget her, it was more of his guilt. He blames himself for forcing Mirai to go home that night."
"How can you say that?"
"Yes, Yama chan is happy with Mirai, and they loved each other, but they're not getting along very well. They both have a high ego and sometimes too selfish. It’s difficult to explain this. Some of times, they were joking and laughing together, but, a minute later they could fight and shouting. The truth is, after engage for 6 month, actually both of them forced to married by Yusuke grandpa. But, Yama chan refused. He said he doesn’t ready being a husband. But, I know, deep in his heart, he still having some hesitation with his feeling.”
“But, after that accident, his guilt makes him closed his heart. He becomes ‘cold’, outside and inside. Just some people who close to him, still can saw his smile, even though a fake ones. That’s why I feel surprise when I see he smiled to you. I think he must interest to you.” Yuya said.
Chinen pondered it all. She needs time for all this. Trying to admit to herself that she likes Yamada's not an easy thing, let alone know the true story of Yamada and Shida.
"Well, it’s all up to you. But, I assure you. Yamada is worth it. He was a good man and faithful. If you really like him, you'll fight for him." Yuya smiled.

At home, Chinen continued to think of Yuya’s words. She's still not sure what she wants to do.
It's already 10 pm when suddenly she heard a loud voice from the hall. Chinen feel curious and decided to out of her room. The sound derived from Yamada’s office. Grandpa Yusuke was on a business trip in Kobe, so, in that house there's only Chinen and the maids.
Chinen approach the sound source. From the room she heard the sound of broken glass and thrown items. Just a few second, and after that the sound disappear. Chinen tries to open the door. Fortunately, it’s unlocked. Chinen peer the inside.
Yamada was seen lying on the couch. His hands were clutching bottles of beer. Chinen’s feel worried. She slowly walked into the room. Broken glass and stuff strewn in everywhere. The room looks so messy.
When approached Yamada, Chinen hear the cries that come from him. Yamada’s right hand crossed over his eyes, while his left hand resting on side, still holding a beer bottle. The closer Chinen walk, she could see tears running down his cheek. She knelt beside Yamada. She saw the pictures scattered on the floor near the couch. Looks like autopsy photos. One of the pictures shows of identity card and diamond ring.
Chinen try to remove the bottle from Yamada’s hand, and put it behind the couch. Fortunately Yamada don’t fight it, the bottle came off easily from his hand. Chinen touch his shoulder.
"Ryosuke ... what happens?" Her soft voice fills the silence in the room.
"It's official."
"What official?"
"Her death. They already prove it with that photo." Yamada removed his hand. His tears continued flowing.
"What should I do? It's all my fault. Why I didn’t listen her that night? Why I force her to come?" He started babbling.
“It’s not your fault, Ryosuke. You know, I actually believe, it’s fate that makes people born, life, and death. We can’t doing anything to against that. We just can makes our life is worth it and meaningful.” Chinen wiped his tears and patted his hair.
“What do you know about fate? Mirai’s death is truly because of me. It’s not fate that makes her ride that plane.” Yamada get up and sit down in the coach. He glared to her.
“If I don’t believe it, I’ve been suicide for long time ago.” Chinen stand up and smile wryly. “You know, the day when all of my family dead are my birthday. I force them to accompany me to amusement park.” Tears start to flow from her eyes.
“Actually my grandpa doesn’t allow it, cause father just arrived from his office and tired, but I cry and I’m too stubborn to hear any rejection. That day was my birthday, why I can’t be selfish just for one day? That’s all my thought. But, because of my wish, I have no family. Because my stubbornness, I kill my family.” Chinen can’t saw Yamada’s expression because her vision blurry with her tears.
“If I don’t believe it, I won’t live after that accident. I’ll be suicide and join my family. But, I do believe it, and I know that my family never allow me to give up. I do believe that it is fate that makes me meet you and grandpa, to feel happiness again.” She wiped her cheek.
“Better I leave you alone.” She start to turn around when Yamada’s hand stopping it. He holding her hand, forced her to look at him.
“Gomen, I don’t know about that. I know exactly what do you feel, cause I feeling the same right now. It’s just, arrrghhhhhhhhh……… I can’t explain it.” Yamada release her hand and touch his head.
Chinen sit beside Yamada. “It’s alright, everyone needs time to accept a bad news. I just want you to thinking about this. Do you think Mirai chan wouldn’t be sad, seeing you like this?”
“For example, if you’re dead and Mirai chan becomes like this, blame herself for causing your dead, wouldn’t you feel sad?” Chinen ask.
Yamada look at her. His eyes look confused. He shakes his head, and grown in pain.
“I can’t think of anything right now. I feel dizzy.” His hands hold his head.
“It must because the beer.” Chinen talked. “C’mon, I help you to your bedroom. You must rest Ryosuke, or you’ll feeling worse next morning.” Chinen hold his arm, and wrapped it around her shoulder. Her other hand hold his waist, because Yamada can’t walk by himself.
Chinen brought Yamada to his room, and laid him on the bed. Chinen helped open his jacket and tie, then get ready to go when Yamada stop it.
"Can you with me here? I do not want to be alone tonight." Yamada pleaded to her.
“All right." Chinen agree. "Wait a minute, I’ll grab a chair."
"No need for that. This bed is wide enough for both of us. You can lie down beside me." Yamada tried to pull her closer to him.
"But ...."
"Please ..." Yamada pleaded.
"Ok, but, don’t you dare to doing anything weird to me." Chinen glared to him.
"Relax, I don’t have enough energy to do anything." Yamada patted the empty spot next to him.
Chinen get into bed and lay next to Yamada. Yamada still hold her hand. Chinen tried to release his grip.
"Let me hold your hand until I’m sleep." Yamada started to close his eyes.
Chinen just sigh, and close her eyes too. Today is very tiring day for her.
