Wanting To Know...

Why is so much abstract art so ... dark. Not necessarily in color, but as if it comes from a tortured soul? It's all bad news and bad feelings. Like, only emo kids paint abstract or something. I can't figure it out. I have spent hours today avoiding actually painting and instead going through Deviant Art's abstract paintings and well... I found one ( Read more... )

I personally always thought the reason for that is because most people use art as a sort of therapy/outlet for when they're upset or angry. Maybe that's why?

But wouldn't a depressing painting make you more depressed? I use color in an attempt to cheer myself up... I want to feel different by the end. So I use something that not me at the time.

Yeah. I don't know WHY so many people deal with depression by, well, making depressing stuff. It never made sense to me. I tend to maybe listen to one sad song for a bit, to sort of reach my "sadness quota" quickly... then it's time to bust out the upbeat dance/techno music and dance. :D
