So, have you experianced the JOY of attempting to explain the differance between being spiritual and religious yet? If not, I don't reccomend attempting it - it only seems to piss anyone involved off. ::sigh::
I think your probably referring to the incident involving you and my brother, which from my understanding had some major miscommunication issues....
I have had the joy and the frustration of trying to explain the difference between being spiritual and being devoutly religious to people. I've learned it all depends on who the person is, and how strongly their believes are. If personal perception equals reality, then someone with strong believes probably can't even imagine someone else's viewpoint. Eh, you're bound to always piss someone of no matter what you do or say, I guess all we can do is try out best to be ourselves.
Actually, the misunderstandings with him were only a very small part of assorted events that inspired my comment. :)
My issues come from having faith (perhaps not in the 'normal' sence of the world) but disagreeing with organized religion. Since we live in the south, a lot of people (in my experiance) tend to think that being spiritual requires strong beliefs in a spisific faith.
I dunno if that made sence. Eeek! I wasn't trash talking your brother, I'm sorry if I gave that impression.
No, I think I sort of understand the whole "faith without commercialized religion" thing. Living in the south, especially in the bible belt, most of the people I know were raised in some form of religion and expected to follow it. I was raised Catholic for more than 10 years, but disagree with most of the offical Church's views on homosexuality, priestly marriage, sexuality, et. and consider myself to of practicing no specific religion. Sometimes I'm not even sure if I can believe in a Diety/God/Goddess, so I'm pretty much agnostic. Eh, I rambled on.
I figured from the way the discussion sounded that it related with my brother, so that's my fault that I assumed it. My mistake. And I never thought you were trash talking anyone. ^_^
