So we made it to Coachella. Driving down the highway getting deeful (excited). *Note (I have lots of pictures posted on Facebook so add me there if you want to see them all... I know you ALL have a facebook)
We made the venue and proceeded to wait in the disorganized line and find our way through. Once in we headed to the beer garden for a nice refreshing $7 USD beer. (I bought very few of these through the festival) We wandered around checking out the crazy art displays and various tents and chill areas.
The first act up on the main stage was Flosstradamus. These amazing DJs from Chicago had the crowd rocking out early. I still need to try and find a set by them.
Afterwards I ventured to the Sahara tent and watched Terry Mullan, followed by the Noisettes and then Tokyo Police Club at the Mojave tent. I watched the entire TPC set. It was pretty rad. I can't remember the exact order of things, but I believe I went and found Terri at the Gillian Welch tent. I wasn't quite sure what to expect here as I don't listen to that kind of music but it was great. There was a huge turn out for her set. Afterwards I believe Terri and I ventured to the Silversun Pickups. We'd listened to them a fair bit on the way down and I was really liking them. I ended up buying their CD along with the new NIN at the super cheap Virgin records tent.
For the next little while I raved it up in the techno tent (Sahara) to see Digitalism, Felix Da Housecat and Benni Benassi. I ditched half way through the last two to go watch the entire Jesus and Mary Chain set. It was great. Afterwards I watched Jarvis Cocker followed by Sonic Youth who were very late to setup. I skipped Interpol since I'd see them already and had not seen Sonic Youth, but I heard a few Interpol songs from a far during the setting up of Sonic Youths stage.
At some point Terri and I went and saw Peeping Tom... I believe while we waited for Sonic Youth. They weren't quite what I expected but I liked a few of their tracks. I'll have to give them another listen for sure.
After Sonic Youth, DJ Shadow was due on, but it took forever to setup his stuff so it was a short set. Not what I expected as he had some new tracks and some crazy video but it was great nonetheless. I saw a few Bjork tracks and tried to get some pictures through the mob but alas.
When the day was over I drove back to the hotel, back and neck burnt, tired and sore. I think that was the day we tried to watch TV (before it went crazy)
More to come...
