My 50th entry: On my 15th most favourite perfume: Park Avenue.

Jan 10, 2006 07:19

Yes, it is my 50th entry. But, Park Avenue is my fifth most favourite perfume brand, not fifteenth.
Now, a longish rambling on the movie 15, Park Avenue. Be warned.
Watched 15, Park Avenue yesterday. She's a talented actress, Konkona is, and that's an understatement. If Mr and Mrs Iyer introduced her as a gifted actor, this movie firmly cements ( Read more... )

konkana sen sharma is sure gunning for the slot of the 'thinking' actor in my books. i adored her in mr&mrsa. i found page3 distasteful for some reason but her performance was riveting. i like my movies creative, intelligent, thought-provoking and i'm sure looking fwd to this movie :-)

Yes ma'am, I dug Mr. & Mrs. Iyer, really did. Don't think, however, this movie is up there. Had gone with a bunch of friends, none of whom liked it much. Nonetheless, I think it's worth a look despite its flaws.

Hello Santanu,

I stopped by and read. Intrigied, I found it hard to pull myself free and to continue with work.

But alas, nice to meet you, I must continue on....

Thanks Mark,

Glad you dropped by... though I concede it's tough to follow the entry since the movie discussed is an Indian one. May I however, if you find it, suggest a movie called 'Mr and Mrs Iyer'? It's made in English and gives a glimpse into progressive contemporary Indian cinema.

Cheers,
Santanu.

i agree with most of ur post, except that i found something wrong / missing with konkona and shabana's potrayal. rather the dialog delivery ... it seemed a bit awry, somewhere - like a translated / dubbed movie. itwas still awesome, but i felt like it could have been even better had they tried to iron that out

also, abt dhritiman, i think that angle was good. see she is attracted to him, and she is suceptible to this new thing only bcz at some level, she is feeling dissatisfied with the reln with K at that moment. yet when K decides to move on, she forgets the distractions and feels bad wholeheartedly for him ...

dunno ... ki bolte chaichhi bojhate paarchhi na excatly. nevcermind :) but the point is that they showed that reln v nicely also. sp'ly loved that part where she comes to know he is married ... thats SO SO real! lol.

Hmmmm... about drhiritman, I understand your point of view, but I still find it hard to believe someone of Shabana's character's maturity and restraint, as depicted in the film, would show herself as so easily susceptible; even if she actually is, she would have been more restrained in its manifestations.

About Bombay, I think I'll like the place... have been staying away from home (B'lore, Hyderabad, Chennai etc.) for the past ten years... so love Calcutta but am not blindly partial...:)

Was going through your blog... will keep visiting, makes for interesting reading...:)

Cheers,
Santanu.

I recently saw this movie and contrary to what was said, I think it is very realistic. I am faced with the same situation in my life. I am the older sister taking care of a younger sister. Our situation is almost the same. There is also a boyfriend in the picture. We are still in the beginning stage of the story. After watching the movie I was scared since it shows my life very realistically. So, please do not say the movie is too emotional and slow, etc From the point of view of a person who is actually living through that, the movie depicts a very realistic story and it is doing it well

Hello Olga

Glad that you liked the movie and found it very realistic. I must point out that I liked the way the romantic angle between the two characters was dealt with, but had a few bones to pick with the introduction of the doctor in the romantic scheme of things. Does your life have this minor detail in common as well?

Pls see ex extract from my entry below...
"
The romantic angle between Shabana and Kanwaljeet is realistically and sensitively dealt with and should have been left at that, but the unnecessary, needless inclusion of the friendly neighbourhood doctor Dhritiman in the romantic scheme of things is uncalled for, irritating and unexpectedly immature.
"

In terms of the movie being slow, unfortunately I did find it slow in parts - my humble opinion only and am not asking you to subscribe to it...:)

Cheers

Santanu
