So Josh and I pretty much don’t have any plans for tomorrow... therefore we have decided to stay up to see the landing of the space shuttle. We are also taking this time to learn about how in 2007 daylight savings time will be 4 weeks longer, and how some thieves tunneled into a bank in Brazil to steal some money, and also what exactly is going on with the all the other space shuttles, we think there are currently 4 but they started with 6... Josh is still looking up the info on this though.
The first two attempts to land in Florida where abandoned due to bad weather. So they are now going to land in Cali. They could also land in New Mexico but I think they have missed that window for today at least... but I don’t fully understand how it works so I could be wrong. I think it will be landing in just under 2 hours so I still need to find more things to keep me occupied.
I also just finished reading this article in Wired about these for Kids from Carl Haden High School who beat out a group of engineering students from MIT in an underwater robot competition. It is amazing! The MIT kids were sponsored by ExxonMobil and had a budget of $11,000 and the Kids from Carl Haden only raised $800.
Josh has just informed me that the first Space Shuttle Enterprise was just used as a test vehicle and was never actually put into orbit. You may now view it at the Smithsonian. And Endeavour was built as a replacement to Challenger. So I believe that means that there are 4 but one was not meant for actual use and therefore they currently have 3. Discovery is trying to land, Atlantis is getting ready for a mission in September that will most likely be moved to November now, and Endeavour is currently being modified. And as you all should know Columbia was destroyed during re-entry in 2003. I'm sure you all wanted to know about this.
