Around Town

Taken while checking out the site of Design Project # 3 - the civic space in front of the old and new (in construction) City Hall. The weather was perfect for taking photos. Most, if not all, of mine turned out crisp and vivid. Magazine-quality? I might not go that far to flatter myself. (But maybe).

Beautiful historic structure, faced in the local Guelph limestone. Note the distinct European (dare I say Second Empire?) styling of the roofline and dormer windows. Simply exquisite. This is why I love Guelph.

The crane, and in front, the historic [heritage] wall which will become the front of the new Guelph City Hall. Innovative idea, yes. But the design isn't great, at least according to me. See renderings of the proposed plan here. A person said that the protrusion had a superiority complex (New > old), I thought it looked like a new building sat upon/crushed the heritage wall. But the scant $25 million budget won't really allow for anything else. Boo to that.

Last but not least, snow on the rocks. Snow on the stone curved walls which border the grand staircase to the old city hall to be exact.
