A fitness update in the form of a book review?

A few days ago I finished Gary Taubes's Why We Get Fat, which to be insultingly reductive is a scientifically-based argument for lower-carb diets.
tl;dr food, insulin, public health fail, how exercise hasn't made me skinny )

His previous book, Good Calories Bad Calories, has more of his research into the literature in it. It was a really fun read (for a nerd). I believe Why We Get Fat has some updated material, though.

Incidentally, it's much easier for me to lose weight without exercise. I can lose maybe 20lb from playing hockey *a lot*, but it's faster and is easier to sustain weight lost just dieting while sedentary. This weight lifting thing seems to if anything force me to maintain at lower intake.

Yeah, apparently Why We Get Fat is a shorter summary (with some new research added) of Good Calories Bad Calories - which is pretty funny considering it's not really short itself.

Me too. It amuses me that this fact has not been in any mainstream diet advice book until recently, and is still considered a little fringe as a philosophy, even though it seems to be true for most people.
