Flies
Have I mentioned the flies? There were a few flies when I arrived, but not too many. Now it's got warmer though, they're everywhere. Right now, there are about 10 or 15 in my room, swarming over my things, my body and my face. I'm trying to swat them so they don't bother me while trying to sleep.

I think you need to get to a better part of Australia. No wonder you're a bit soured on Australia, given your experiences! Most of the country isn't like what you've experienced! Well, ok, we get the flies, but usually people out here (including bosses) are friendly and fair to deal with.
Heck, I work in a job on salary and can take time off whenever I want based on working extra hours, even though my salary is meant to compensate for working more than FT hours.
Most Aussies who live places that get flies are clever enough to have fly screens etc. We get flies here. Just no in the house >.
