An ode to boredom
I often bitch about how boring my job is, but I don't think I've ever REALLY tried to show people what it is that I do all day. So, today, since my co-worker is gone for a week and I don't even have her crazy stories to listen too, I used my laptop camera and took me some (illegal) pictures of my lovely, exciting job.
Okay. This is a card. This is what i look at all day, everyday. They are the bane of my existence.
Now, here's where the "work" comes in. I take this card, and type everything on it into an Excel spreasheet.
That's it. That's my entire job. Repeat x 400. Now, it's boring sure- that's fairly easy to see. But why is it daunting and depressing along with being boring? Well...
This is a stack of about 100 cards. On Average i do anywhere from 300 - 450 cards a day, depending on how much info is on each card and how long I screw around on the internet.
so see how small that stack of cards are? Here's the table I work at, with 3 drawers of cards just itching to be typed up
Yeah, and those are just 3 out of 30 some odd drawers. I'm only on the E's after having worked for almost two months straight.
Ugh.
So yeah, that's my job! Don't you wish you too could be in the exciting field of Student Library Assistant?!
*sigh* Well, since i've killed so much time doing this bullshit, I guess I should go back to my cards.
