Don't worry, I did the EXACT SAME thing once! I worked in a club house on a golf course a few years ago. And when I was POURING GRAVY I spilt it down my fingers. It hurt like a bastard and there was a huge nasty blister. So you're not a total idiot...or if you are, then at least I am too :P
