I haven't followed it much-I mean, not much considering how interested I am in art-I hadn't looked at the list of signers until now, for instance. I read enough when the news first broke to understand that the only grey or fuzzy aspects to Polanski's crime are in the heads of his apologists, after decades of misdirection. But I read your posts because you're my friend and I want to know about something so important to you.
So maybe this is something others have pointed out, but your post is the first time I've seen it: An acknowledgment that part of the rape culture's structure of power-because in systemic terms there's always a power relationship; that's what's being abused-is economic power. The people who get away with abuse and rape are overwhelmingly successful (in some sense) older men from the dominant (in the US, white western European) culture, and it's no coincidence that money is correlated with all those factors.
