1. Name something you lost or gave away that can never be replaced.
The only thing I can think of right now is my navy blue BC/EFA hoodie that somehow got lost before I drove a group of friends to a No Doubt concert in 2009. I had it with me when I went to pick them up and then when we got to the venue, it wasn't in the car. The only explanation is that it was left at their house, but we've never been able to find it. And it was my most comfortable hoodie and apparently they discontinued making it because it's no longer on their website.
2. What 5 websites do you visit often, and why?
Facebook, to see what my friends are up to and to make ridiculous statuses about my life
Yahoo mail, to check my mail
Tumblr, to see what fandom people are up to. I rarely go to my dash, though. I actually go to their specific blogs because I like seeing things in the format that they've chosen. So I specifically go to
poehlerparty,
msknope,
galentines,
jobethdalloway,
crackinois and
fuckyeahrizzoli-isles, in that order.
Rizzoli & Isles page of fanfiction.net, right now because I'm working through my summer reading list, but normally just to read things that I have alerts set for
Livejournal, to read my friendspage and sometimes make legitimate posts but more often to make these survey posts
3. Name a totally useless possession and how you came to acquire it.
Well, I'm going to interpret "useless" not as the object having no use, but me owning it and having never used it... To quote Oscar from The Office, "And this scary black bar here is what you spend on things that no one ever, ever needs, like multiple magic sets..." I own a ridiculous amount of things that I never ever needed in the first place. I own several weird exercise gadgets because I bought a Bender Ball after seeing it on an infomercial and I never canceled my subscription or something, so they kept sending me weird stuff that I don't understand how to use. I own a full set of make-up from Bare Essentials because an infomercial told me it would clear up my red cheeks, but it didn't really do much and I never returned it or canceled my subscription so they kept sending me new make-up. I own a ton of random books that have never even come out of the cardboard packaging they were sent in because a friend made me subscribe to this MyPoints website where you get points for completing surveys and signing up for offers and I got my 2 free books and forgot to cancel my subscription so they just kept sending me their "Books of the Month." I have since canceled all of those subscriptions, but I've never returned any of the stuff. To quote Leslie Knope, "Jessica Simpson clip-in hair extensions... I wore those once. It was a money-back guarantee, but I forgot to return them."
4. What music album would be used for a movie about your life?
I'm not going through the same exact struggles as the main character in the movie, but I feel the soundtrack to "TransAmerica" would be a good one. I also think "Bear Creek" would work really well. It really spoke to me on an emotional level. Some songs took me back to a specific time in my childhood, a couple songs I can really relate to, one song really encapsulates my feelings about my best friend. It's just a great album and one that I would love to tell the story of my life.
5. List your bad habits and/or addictions and what you have tried to rid yourself of them.I'm addicted to the internet (specifically fan fiction), television, certain actresses and/or TV characters. I haven't taken any steps to cure this, because I don't think it really needs cured. I do have a spending problem with buying DVDs, and I have tried to cut back on that by getting subscriptions to Hulu & Netflix Instant, which saves me from having to buy the DVDs. Although, I will always buy certain shows when their newest seasons become available on DVD because I love commentaries and other DVD extras.
6. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be, and what would you do if later on you changed your mind?
I would change the fact that it takes me awhile to get motivated and that I procrastinate a lot. I don't think I would change my mind on that and if I did, then I would just devolve into a lazy person again.
7. What are your religious beliefs? Have they changed, or have they always stayed the same?
I feel it would be easiest to send you to my
religious ponderings tag than to explain my beliefs here. In general, though, I believe in a God but I am against organized religion because they are more often about hate than about love and I prefer to live a life filled with love and I honestly think that's what God would prefer, too. They have changed only in that I didn't recognize the hate when I was a young child and then when I became aware of it, my beliefs didn't really change that much, I just realized that you don't have to congregate with other people in a specific building to have a relationship with God, especially when those people would judge you if they knew certain insignificant things about you.
8. When was your last food craving, and what did you crave?
I was really craving a strawberry cheesequake blizzard from Dairy Queen last night and I didn't think it was open but I drove past anyway and it was open!
9. Who was your first crush and what made them special?
My first crush was on the other kindergarten teacher in our school, Mrs. Rasel. She was really pretty and nice and I remember on Valentine's Day, I made her a special Valentine's card using that fancy paper that was like lace. And then I ended up graduating with her son and singing with her in an Easter cantata when I was in high school.
10. Name your most cherished childhood memory.
Spending time at my grandma's apartment on Friday nights in the summer and her making me dinner and watching Block Party Summer with her, and then her going to bed and me staying up until 4 in the morning continuing to watch Nick at Nite and wishing I was Joanie Cunningham and sitting at her desk and pretending I was at a job. I had so much fun over there. And every time I watch certain Nick at Nite shows, like Taxi & The Mary Tyler Moore show, it always makes me think back to her living room.
11. Turn to an entry in your journal or diary from a year or more ago. What has changed and what has stayed the same since then?
To be honest, not much has changed at all. Like... nothing. I hang out with primarily the same group of people, spend my evenings doing pretty much the exact same things... I go to more drag shows than I ever did before, I guess. And I've returned to my old department at work, which I love. But that's about it...
12. What is one thing nobody knows about you because nobody ever cared to ask?
I can't think of anything that nobody knows about me. I'm sure there is something, but nothing significant comes to mind. I was thinking of joking and saying "I don't think anyone knows I'm gay" because almost everyone who knows me knows that. But then I thought about the "nobody ever asked" part of the question and I realized that I've only ever been directly asked if I was gay twice, despite almost everyone knowing. The first time it was indirectly questioned, and I don't remember if I gave an answer, was in 6th grade. While we were hanging out on his cousin's swingset, David Marullo (whom I had a crush on) asked me if I was in love with Jennifer Aniston, because I was obsessed with her. Then in 9th grade, Mallory Mousseau (one of my best friends in high school) took one look at my bedroom walls (covered in posters of WWF divas) and asked if I had "something I wanted to tell [her.]" I would have confided in her if she had asked at a time when my brother was not in the room using the computer, but instead I just said "...no." My other two best friends in high school, and eventually Mallory (who was gay for awhile in high school, herself) eventually just assumed based on random comments I made or the fact that I was obsessed with several WWF divas, Willow & Tara, and Jorja Fox. They never asked and I never said anything. It was just suddenly common knowledge that I was gay, and Mallory was gay, and Mike was gay, and Marissa wasn't gay but she'd flip for certain WWF divas lol. The first time I was asked flat out was by my mom on the car trip back to WVU because a lesbian movie (not porn, just a PG-13 movie about lesbians) was mailed to my house instead of my dorm and the packing slip said "Username: LESBIANSHOPPER" even though I had an account with a normal username. Nothing about the packing slip even hinted at it being about lesbians, so if it wasn't for that, they wouldn't have known anything. But she asked me, "is this your way of telling us you're gay?" and it an uncomfortable hour and a half car ride followed that. The next time I was asked flat out was by this one friend I made at the Terri Clark fan club party I just went to in June. But other than that, people generally ask my friends if I'm gay rather than ask me. And that's fine with me. I just had never thought about that before.
13. Robert Frost wrote a poem titled The Road Not Taken. Name a road you’ve always wanted to travel. Where do you hope it takes you, and what might you see on the way?
I've been traveling down a lot of roads recently. There are certain things I've really wanted to do and I've just asked myself, "What's stopping you?" and I've gone. One thing I haven't done yet and a road I guess I'd like to travel is to try and develop a screenplay for a movie. I really enjoy that format of writing and I banged out a short screenplay in college for this creative writing project that was pretty good. I have ideas that I want to explore, too, but I have no time to focus on that right now. I have no connections for this to happen, but if we're just dreaming big here, I would like to write something that Allison Janney eventually stars in. I remember reading an interview where she said she'd love it if someone wrote something for her to act in (I forget the exact quote now) and it just so happens that a lot of the characters in my head could very easily be played by her. So I guess that's a specific road I'd like to travel.
14. Name one thing you always wanted to do, but haven’t. What has prevented you from doing it?
Go to Dinah Shore weekend in Palm Springs. The only thing preventing me from going is that I would want to go with a group of friends, but I don't have a group of lesbian friends that I would want to go with. My only lesbian friends are older and less inclined to thrive in a party atmosphere like Dinah Shore. And I wouldn't want to spend the week with them. I wish I had a group of lesbian friends that were my age and were just really fun people that I wanted to hang out with. But I don't. My friends are mainly gay men and straight women.
15. Write about your first kiss. Was it everything you wished or hoped it would be?
I wrote about it before in
this post. It was kind of random. It had been a long time coming, but just really random, and followed by an uncertainty of what it really meant. But it led to a pretty fun first relationship for the most part.
16. What was the worst mistake or decision you have ever made in life? What could you have done differently?
I doubt that this was actually the worst, but it made me feel like shit and it is one of the bigger regrets in my life. I was supposed to go to Lilith Fair in 2010 in NYC to see the Indigo Girls and Jill Hennessy, among other amazing performers. I was so excited about this, and just one week before I was driving home from the beach listening to the Staring Down The Brilliant Dream album and just feeling great about life and so happy I'd be seeing this concert. I was supposed to go with two of my friends (one of whom backed out at the last minute) and I went to the store and made sandwiches and bagged up grapes to put in a cooler for the trip up, and I premade captain & cokes and bay breezes to drink when we were at the show. I was so ready for it. And then somehow I overslept by 2 hours and woke up in a panic. And then I couldn't find my tickets which I had just seen the previous week. My mom and I tore up my apartment looking for them but we came to the conclusion that they had accidentally gotten thrown away when I cleaned my apartment the week before. And Ticketmaster wasn't open for me to call and have them cancel the printed tickets and hold new ones at the venue. So I had to call the one friend still going and tell her that we wouldn't be going. She wasn't as invested as I was, so she was mainly bummed for me. But I was devastated and spent the whole day trying to cheer myself up, but was sad for pretty much the whole week after that. It still depresses me. And there probably aren't going to be any more Lilith Fairs any time soon.
17. What song was stuck in your head recently, and what were you doing at the time that made you think of it?
Kill My Boyfriend. It just runs through my head at random times.
18. Describe 5 things you want to see or do before it’s too late.
So a bucket list, of sorts? I want to see the UCB4 perform improv together (which just happened on Sunday at the Del Close Marathon and I wish I could have been there.) I want to attend a Lilith Fair. I want to go to Dinah Shore Weekend. (I realize we've already covered those last two.) I want to travel through Europe and make sure to specifically visit Paris, Interlaken, and Ireland in general. And I kind of want to try peyote.
19. Write about something you now know that you wish you knew earlier in life. How could this knowledge have helped you?
I don't know if I know anything now that I didn't know before, at least not anything that would have significantly helped me out.
20. Write about your greatest fear.
The thing that would frighten me most would be having to live without my best friend, which is why we always joke that we're going out together in a Thelma & Louise blaze of homo glory.
21. Name one thing you feel brings out the good in people.
I just thought of some truly miserable and mean people that I know and I tried thinking of any time they were what one would call "good." I guess it's not really an answer to this specific question, but I find that when you're nice to people and good to other people, they generally return that back to you.
22. Describe a time in your life when everything turned out fine, despite the odds.
I guess you could say things turned out fine when I flipped my car onto its roof and came out with only a bruised lip and a small scratch on my palm.
23. If you invented a device that could fix one problem you are facing right now, would you use it? What problem would you like to solve?
I had a well-thought-out answer about a work problem I would like fixed, but to be honest, if I could invent a device that would fix the severe itchiness happening in my eyes right now, I would be in Heaven. Extreme eye itch relief drops are not cutting it. Actually, let's go one step further. I would like to invent a device that made it possible to temporarily remove body parts that are causing you problems. The credit for this idea needs to go to Elvira Kurt, but I would love it so much if I could remove my uterus for the next couple of days and let it bleed and cramp up all it wants and put it back in when it decides it's done. And there are many days where I would like to remove the area surrounding my left shoulder blade because it hurts so damn bad.
24. Write about the last time you spoke to your best friend. What did you talk about?
In text message, we last discussed Julia Louis-Dreyfus being on SNL and potentially watching a horror movie starring Melissa Joan Hart. In person, I believe we discussed the relationship of a mutual friend.
25. Describe a time you felt alone.
One of the nights I was on third shift, I actually cried at my desk upstairs because I felt so alone. Kathy and Penny had left before I had a chance to stop down and see them, and it was after my manager Dave had been fired so I was missing him and I just felt really sad and alone. I missed spending my breaks with Kathy, my work bff, and it actually made me cry. Just a bad night over all.
26. Name something you found; what was it and where did you find it?
I found my missing cd for The Sims 3 hiding out on my couch cushion under a pile of clothes and papers. I'm kind of a mess.
27. What’s on your calendar for tomorrow?
Go to work. Basically it.
28. What is the most annoying sound you have ever heard?
I'm really sensitive to sounds (after recently learning what ASMR is, I have realized that I probably have it.) So there are a lot of sounds that I really like, but when I hear the ones I don't like, I really hate it. If I accidentally scratch my fingernail on a regular sheet of paper, it makes a certain noise and I get chills, but in a bad way. It also happens when the edges of this plastic stamper I use scratch against my desk. I just got bad chills thinking about it.
29. Describe your first job.
I worked at a gyro stand at the Three Rivers Arts Festival for a man named Shaheen. I took the orders and handed out the food that other people prepared.
30. What is the one thing you cannot live without?
Relationships with loved ones, I guess.
31. Quote the nicest thing anyone has ever said about you.
I am thinking of a couple of things specific teachers have said to me before. My College Writing teacher in senior year of high school always wrote very nice reviews of my papers and then years later I saw him in a bar with some other teachers and he said hey and asked how I'd been and told me that he remembered I was a really great writer. Also, my French teacher said many wonderful things in my favor throughout the time I knew her. She told me once after I graduated that I inspired her, which was really touching because she was an inspiration to me for most of high school. I miss her.
32. Are you afraid of the dark? Why or why not?
I'm not really afraid of the dark, but I do feel irrationally safer if I am wrapped in a blanket. I also cannot sleep in complete darkness, not because I'm afraid of the dark itself, but because every time I do fall asleep like that, I have horrifying sleep paralysis dreams. This is why I always put an episode of something on my laptop and turn the volume down when I want to fall asleep.
33. Describe the longest amount of time you have ever been away from home.
When I was going to WVU. I went home fairly often on weekends, so I'd say probably three weeks or a month, maybe?
34. Write about a recent adventure or travels.
I recently traveled to Nashville to attend Terri Clark's Fan Club Party. And I realized that I never wrote about that, so I was going to do that now, but then I remembered that I recounted the event in a phone post a few weeks ago. I think I only really described my encounter at Tootsie's Orchid Lounge, though, so I guess I can write about the other parts of the trip. I had a long layover in Houston on the flight down and I decided to have some cocktails so I found a restaurant and ordered some crab cakes and a few Captain & Cokes. And then three young men sat down next to me at the bar and the one in the seat next to me engaged me in small talk for awhile. He was nice. I went to my terminal and found out the flight was overbooked and they would give $200 vouchers to people who were willing to be rescheduled on the next flight. I figured I would still be able to catch the premiere of Rizzoli & Isles if I took the next flight, so I took the voucher. I had reserved a rental car and I managed to get to what I thought was my hotel at 7:54 (Rizzoli & Isles starts at 8pm in Nashville) only to realize that I had pulled in to the Hampton Inn and not the Hilton. I saw an H on the sign and apparently wasn't paying attention to the rest of the word lol. The Hilton was right down the street so after I checked in there, I ended up missing the first 10 minutes of Rizzoli & Isles, but it was available for download right after. So I downloaded that and Pretty Little Liars and watched those and then went to bed. The next day was the fan club party and it was so much fun! I made friends with some really welcoming people (several of whom were lesbians, obviously lol) and they invited me to dinner with them before a couple of us headed to Tootsie's, which is where my phone post story picks up. Here is some footage I took of the concert:
35. Who did you idolize growing up?
Lynn Defalco, my church's choir director. I also idolized my previously mentioned French teacher, Miss Lott, through most of high school.
36. Name a celebrity or famous person you wish would take you out on a date.
Oh, let's see... I realize this is a scenario that would never happen so I should be free to say whatever celebrity I want, but I feel that I don't want to say someone who I know is straight or already attached. That really limits my options, though. I guess my answer, with these stipulations, would be Nicol Paone.
37. Describe your daily routine when you get out of bed in the morning.
Wake up around 1pm. If I'm getting a shower, then I will quickly check my email and facebook on my laptop before I go upstairs to shower. If I'm getting a bath, I take my phone upstairs with me and check email & facebook in the bathtub. Brush teeth, get dressed, deal with hair, put makeup on. Go to work. On my first break at 5:20, I check go on my phone and check to see if I've gotten any alerts for updates to fanfics and I will read them at my desk. Or sometimes I will read a book if I'm in the middle of reading a particular book. I eat at my 7:30 break, and then read some more at the 9:30 break. I finish up at work anytime between 10:45 and 11:15pm, depending on how busy my day has been. Sometimes I stop for fast food on the way home (a bad habit I need to break.) Other times I drive around for awhile and sing along with my music. When I get home, if I've stopped for food, I will put on an episode of something and watch it while I eat (right now I'm rewatching The Office season 3.) Then I visit the sites I listed about. After I've caught up on all that, I watch several episodes of whatever show I'm in the mood for until about 4am and then I fall asleep.
38. What was the longest amount of time you have spent waiting on line for something? What was it, and was it worth the wait?
I assume this means waiting in a line and not waiting online for something. I guess the longest time I've spent in line for something would be at an amusement park waiting to get on a ride. The longest wait I can think of is usually for the Exterminator at Kennywood, and while it's a fun ride, it's definitely not worth the wait. No ride at an amusement park is worth the agony of standing in a line for close to an hour.
39. Name one thing you have always been good at doing.
I want to say writing, but there are a couple of things I've written (when I first started writing fan fics around the age of 13) that I look back on and cringe. And lately I haven't been able to find the motivation to write anything substantial. So I guess I can't actually say writing for this. I have always been pretty good at making other people feel good about themselves.
40. What is your favorite season, and why?
Autumn. The temperatures are perfect. It doesn't have the oppressive heat of summer or the biting frost of winter. Hoodies are appropriate (I love hoodies.) The leaves are vibrant and beautiful while they're still on the trees. Then they fall and I get to fulfill my OCD of making dirty surfaces clean when I rake the yard and expose the green grass. And then they dry up and line the sidewalks and I get to fulfill another OCD by stepping on crunchy leaves and hearing that satisfying sound trigger my ASMR. It's just an all-around wonderful time of year.
41. What was the title of the last book you read?
3rd Degree by James Patterson. It's part of the Women's Murder Club series. I have this apparent habit of reading this series of books while on planes and getting to a really emotional part and having to hold back tears because I don't want to cry in front of strangers who are a foot away from me. Spoiler alerts, if you care... I was reading 1st to Die on a plane to back from LA and Chris Raleigh died and it made me really sad. And then on the way to Nashville, I was reading 3rd Degree and the ABC series did not adequately prepare me for the fact that Jill is murdered in this book! It was really shocking and I did not see that coming at all.
42. List your biggest regrets.
I've answered this before in a recent survey, so I'll just say I wish the whole WVU experience had gone differently.
43. Have you ever seen a ghost?
I have not.
44. Describe your note-taking style and habits.
I'm really good at remembering stuff. Someone at work once observed that my mind is like a steel trap. I mainly just write down the main points that someone is making. If they are writing stuff on a whiteboard or something, I will usually copy down everything, though, because I like writing and if they're stressing it enough to write it down, it's usually important.
45. Do you believe that we are all here for a reason? What might the reason be?
I guess so. I don't have any answers on what that might be, though.
46. What comes to mind when someone uses the phrase prolonging the magic?
Nothing specific comes to mind. Any time I think of magic, though, I always think of GOB Bluth. "I don't have time for your magic tricks, GOB!" "Illusions! You don't have time for my illusions. Tricks are something a whore does for money. Or cocaine."
47. Have you ever done something just to feel the danger, or to feel alive?
I'm not that much of a thrill-seeker or risk-taker. This is completely small scale and totally not what the person posing this question is talking about, but there is one thing I like to do... If I take the back road on my way to work, there is a small hill that descends kind of quickly so if I speed up before I get to the hill, it gives a nice little roller coaster effect that makes me smile. I wouldn't say it makes me feel alive, but it's a nice little burst of endorphins.
48. What is your favorite cliché?
It's as Ann as the nose on Plain's face.
49. What are all your thoughts on God?
I shall again refer you to my
religious ponderings tag.
50. How do rainy days make you feel?
Amazing! I love the sound of rain and the look of the sky when it rains. It makes me so happy when it rains.
51. What is the most amount of money you have had at one time?
I have a really good job and I live at home with my parents where I only pay $300 a month for rent/utilities/cell phone plan/car insurance. So I'm pretty set with what I have now.
52. Write a celebrity crush list.
Really? Considering I'm giving lengthy answers to all the other questions, I guess I shouldn't short list this one. But don't say I didn't warn you...
Terri Clark, Sasha Alexander, Amy Poehler, Jill Hennessy, Stockard Channing, Angie Harmon, Elizabeth Mitchell, Jessica Capshaw, Sara Ramirez, Troian Bellasario, Stephanie March, Maura Tierney, Connie Britton, Tina Fey, Melora Hardin, Kristin Chenoweth, Chely Wright, Stamie Karakasidis, Tracy Ryerson, Julia Murney, Allison Janney, Nicol Paone, Kate Jackson, Jorja Fox, Felicity Huffman, Amber Benson, Nancy McKeon, Idina Menzel, Taye Diggs, Adam Scott, Will Arnett, Lee Thompson Young
53. What is the most amazing thing you have ever seen, heard, or experienced?
Brandi Carlile's Bear Creek concert. It was absolutely amazing and it made me feel things throughout the entire show. And I shared it with my best friend, which made it even more special. Because I go to a lot of shows by myself, which is fine, but it's really nice to be there with someone you love and have it be a shared experience.
54. What effect does music have on you?
I don't understand people who don't have deep connections to music. Like, how can you not be moved by some type of music? I love singing along to music. I can't not sing along. Even when I'm in the car with other people and they're trying to talk to me, I listen to them, but I'm still softly singing along to the music. I love that music affords me options when I'm in a bad mood. I can either put on something like the Crossing Jordan soundtrack and let it soothe me, or I can put on DMX and just stew in my resentment of a situation, or I can put on Next to Normal and belt my face off to "It only hurts when I work / it only hurts when I play / it only hurts when I move / IT ONLY HURTS WHEN I SAY / It's just another day!"
55. What did you learn today? What did you learn yesterday?
Today I learned that "fahrvergnügen" means driving enjoyment, and my brother must have heard it somewhere and that's what he was always saying when I thought he was saying "Fart fig newton." Or maybe he was just saying fart fig newton. You never know with him. And yesterday I learned that there is a new Rizzoli & Isles novel coming out at the end of August! Pre-ordered! I realize they're totally different characters than on the show, but I am so fucking starved for good storytelling about these wonderful women. I really wish they would consult with Tess on certain things for the show. She weaves such intriguing plots and the show could certainly benefit from it. Clearly their cop consultants can't train Angie to properly wield a gun and clearly Janet never understands what the science consultants are telling her, judging by some of the impossible conclusions she's had Maura come to. Maybe at least Tess would be able to teach Janet how to tell a story without insulting your audience's intelligence. /rant.
56. What 5 traits do people first notice when they meet you for the first time?
I am short, I have huge boobs, my hair is pretty (most of the time), I am generally quiet... I don't know what else. Those are the main ones that I get all the time. These are the three traits my best friend uses to describe me to other people who have never met me, though: Lesbian, no sense of smell, eats really slowly.
57. Have you ever carved your name or initials into a tree or stone?
I don't think I've carved my initials into anything. The only thing I can think of that I carved into anything was on a picnic table at a campsite a few years ago. Someone had carved a swastika into the table top, so I drew an equal sign and a frowny face next to it, then below it I drew a heart equals smiley face. And I wrote "love conquers hate."
58. Democracy, communism, or socialism? Defend your choice.
To be honest, I have a vague understanding of the difference between the three, but I don't know enough about it to give an informed answer.
59. Does Never Never Land really exist?
It would be cool if it did.
60. Where is a great place to get breakfast?
Pocahontas Pancake House in Virgina Beach. They have the most delicious chocolate chip Belgian waffles!
61. List 3 things that went right (or wrong) today.
I got to work on time, I had the correct amount of money for the pizza guy and didn't have to hunt down people who forgot to pay, and I got out of work on time. I lead a very exciting life lol
62. What is the best method of travel, and in what ways have you traveled?
I enjoy driving the most, because if it's just me (and I've driven to NYC and back by myself) then I get to sing constantly for hours upon hours, and if I'm with friends, we get to have fun road trip times. But airplane is the most convenient. And Greyhound bus is the absolute worst. Seriously. If you want to get a preview of hell, hang out in the grimy basement of the 42nd St Greyhound station between 8th & 9th in NYC (that's where you get the bus back to Pittsburgh.) I once saw a woman with no shoes on pee herself and then reach down and grope her crotch, I guess in an attempt to hold the rest of the pee in? I also once had my MP3 player stolen out of my purse while I had fallen asleep. It was on its last leg though and had packing tape holding the headphones in a specific position because it wouldn't play in both ears unless it was in that position. Clearly the person who stole it realized it was a piece of shit because I found it wedged into an empty seat several rows behind me when I went to the bathroom.
63. If you could tell the world just one thing, what would it be?
It would be that we're all okay. And not to worry, 'cause worry is wasteful and useless in times like these. That really is one of my favorite songs. I love its message. So I think I really would recite the lyrics to the world if that's the only message I could convey.
64. What were your best and worst subjects in school or college?
Best was definitely English or any writing class I had. I was also really good at Sociology. And the worst was anything having to do with science.
65. Describe the most outrageous thing anyone has dared you to do.
Someone dared me to deep throat a bong that was in the room, but I couldn't fit my mouth around it (its girth was quite... impressive?) so they dared me to show one of my boobs, which was much easier.
66. ICE CREAM: chocolate, vanilla, or strawberry?
Vanilla. I enjoy French Vanilla the most.
67. What historical events happened the year you were born?
I'm just going to google it and list the ones that stick out to me...
Jan 1st - Barbra Striesand & Jon Peters relationship breaks up. (I was considering just leaving it at that, because clearly nothing's going to top it lol)
Jan 18th - AIDS charity record "That's What Friends are For," hits #1
Jan 20th - 1st federal holiday honoring Martin Luther King Jr
Jan 24th - 43th Golden Globes: Whoopi Goldberg, Color Purple win (I like Whoopi & The Color Purple, but I mainly listed this one because it says 43th instead of 43rd lol)
Feb 20th - Mike Tyson sexually harasses a woman in Albany NY
Apr 6th - Soccer ball juggled non-stop for 14:14 hrs
May 22nd - Cher called David Letterman an asshole on Late Night on NBC
Aug 10th - Marquis Theater opens at 1535 Broadway NYC
Sep 6th - 300 invitees pay $5,000 to hear Barbra Striesand's benefit concert (Look, another Barbra event, this time on my birthday lol)
Sep 29th - "Designing Women," TV Comedy, debuts on CBS
Oct 14th - Concentration camp survivor Elie Wiesel wins Nobel Peace Prize
Dec 1st - Musée d'Orsay opens in Paris (including this one for the wonderment of Dr. Maura Isles)
68. Pick up a random object that has special meaning to you and describe it in as much detail as possible.
I'm going with whatever is closest to me... Oh, and look at that. I still have my pile of "sentimental things" sitting on my couch waiting for me to put them away. There are a lot of things here with special meaning, so allow me to pick one at random... It is a card from the "Connections for Hallmark" collection and it cost $0.94. The front is yellow with multi-colored dots and in the top left corner there is a potted sunflower in a blue and white plaid box. It says "Do you know how special you are?" The inside says "I do. Thanks for everything." And below the printing that came on the card, it says "I wanted to thank you again for the lovely 'assortment' you gave me. However, I am so deeply touched by your original card. I am having it framed to preserve your kind words. If I can ever be of any help, please ask. Love, Jeanne Dixon." It is a thank you card from my 11th grade English teacher, Mrs. Dixon. She was one of my favorite teachers in high school (second only to Miss Lott, who is actually one of her best friends.) Before I graduated, I apparently gave her an assortment of something, which I think may have been these chocolate pretzel things that I put in a mug or something? But I also gave her a card that said something about going on a journey and travelling down a road past several of the places that existed in the books and poems we read that year. The only part I really remember was something like, "look up into the window on your way past the mansion and Mistress Hibbins will be staring back at you. And when you get to the end of the road, you will find the most special character of all, the one who took the time to teach you about all of the characters you've met along the way." I wish I could remember what it said, exactly. It was certainly more poetic than that snippet would suggest, though.
69. Write about a recent visit to a museum or art gallery.
I can't remember the last time I was at a museum or art gallery. I really wanted to go to the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum when I was in Nashville, but I didn't have enough time. I think the last museum I was at was the Heinz History Center and Sports Museum, which I had no real interest in, but my best friend's dad invited me along for the family outing to exciting downtown Pittsburgh. My favorite thing about that trip was that I contributed this to the museum:
70. What food items do you consider staples in a well-balanced diet?
I have no business commenting on a well-balanced anything, much less a diet. My eating habits are atrocious. I have lost 15 pounds since the beginning of the year, but that's mainly because I eat less and I went back to my old department and it requires more walking around.
71. Describe your feelings in regards to an issue in todays society, and what would be done to fix it.
I read this the other day and I really think it expresses my feelings on the matter of politics:
"It’s for this exact reason that the left can no longer afford to squander time and energy engaging the childish arguments of paid provocateurs. We have to seek out those on the right willing to engage in genuine dialogue and ignore the rest." -Liberals Are Ruining America; I Know Because I Am One - Steve Almond
72. If you had only one wish, what would you wish for?
I would wish to be best friends with Amy Poehler lol. I honestly can't think of a serious wish right now, and that would be super cool.
73. If you could tell the world just one thing, what would you say?
You were doing so well, survey, with all the thought-provoking questions and now you've gone and repeated yourself. I guess one other thing I could possibly paraphrase to the world would be "Don't see things as they are and ask why; dream things that never were and ask why not." It's one of my mantras.
74. Share a dirty little secret about yourself (or someone else).
Uh... as you may have guessed by the previous mentions of not having a girlfriend or any other romantic interactions in a couple years that I don't get up to much that would be considered dirty. So the only thing I have to offer is that I just masturbated a few minutes ago while reading a smutty Rizzoli & Isles fan fic, and now we have reached the TMI portion of this survey.
75. Name a time when you broke a rule or law. Did you get caught, or did you get away with it?
I attempted to pee in the bushes while I was waiting for the drunk bus at WVU. There was a cop nearby and he put a stop to that. I actually think he thought something else was going on, though, because this oh-so-helpful college gentleman frat boy was trying to assist me and it probably appeared like he was trying to have sex with me. Yay college...
76. Have you ever gone skinny dipping?
No.
77. Name something you would like to devote more time to seeing or doing.
Exercising, to be honest. I am so lazy and unmotivated.
78. What is the name of your favorite book, magazine, or publication?
My favorite books are "Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe," "Wuthering Heights," and "Tipping the Velvet." My favorite poem is "Dirge without Music." My favorite play is "The Little Dog Laughed."
79. Describe your first car.
1994 Teal Mercury Topaz
80. Thunderstorms… Inspiring or scary?
Inspiring! I love thunderstorms so much!
That only took like four days to complete... Such great questions, though!! If you're bored and looking for a survey that doesn't focus 60% of its energy on "omgz! who'd u last kiss?! where'd u last kiss?! when u kissing next?!" then I would definitely recommend this one. And now it's time to sleep :)
