I don't mean to be dismissive of your other concerns or to suggest that this could solve everything, but with regards to the financial piece, have you tried to see whether you might qualify for Social Security disability support? I know that at least part of the reason you've been out of work is tied to ongoing medical issues, so it's a thought.

As for the rest, I know I'm far away and so the practical side is somewhat limited, but if there's every anything I can do to support you, please don't hesitate to ask. You're my brother from another mother, and I'd do anything I can to help. =/
