I just want to make it clear now: should we ever live through robot nuclear holocaust only to float about in space for years, I never want to settle somewhere without the benefit of antibiotics and alcohol.
Also, I like to imagine that Adama is the only survivor that didn't freeze to death during the first winter (he, of course, weathered the season in the one surviving raptor).
BSG's ability to make its characters and relationships completely believable and human and enduring is what kept me watching, even from the beginning when I was completely ready to dismiss it as typical sci fi crap. I never got into Star Trek and didn't care to because it seemed happy to be a live-action cartoon. So I agree with much of what you're saying.
Are people complaining about that aspect of BSG? I think most people were let down by the 'deus ex machina answers everything' finale

However it was just done all the wrong way. It stunk of bad writting.
I just feel a big lose at what could have been.
It could been a great ending and a run.
However it fell flat.
It fell really hard and flat, I think it left an impact carter in South America when it did land.
