HYDRAGYRUM - No.1 - Sunset

Hydragyrum - another word for the element, mercury
Basis: After surviving a car-crash that takes away the life of her step-father and younger sister, Dinah wakes up in a hospital temporarily mute and with a permanent limp in her right leg. She meets the guardian angel, Cygnus.

The sunset made impatient butterflies dance around her belly. She sat at the edge of her bed, hands clinching the side as she watched out her opened window. Toward the bright and brilliant colors the giant setting star made. The words ‘tropical rainbow’ played in her mind when it came to describing the palette. A half-assured smile on her lips at remembering how his lips curled when she made the childish remark a few nights after their routine started.

“I‘m going to go do the dishes now, dear. Try and get some sleep please.” The voice of her mother peaked from the door. Turning her head toward the older woman, Dinah smiled and nodded. “Alright, mom. Love you.”

Her mother responded an off-handed ‘love you too’ before shutting the door at the awkwardness she felt. Dinah sighed and fell back against her bed-covers. Short, black-tipped, blonde locks sprawled against the dark blues of the covers. There was no pillow on the bed. She felt no need for one anymore. Her mother hadn’t gotten used to all this. Sure, she was happy that her daughter’s voice returned and loved hearing it but the fact that it was only hers now, instead of three, took a cruel toll on the woman. The younger girl understood all-too-well as to what her mother was feeling. She held her own miseries in that department. Turning to her side, she moaned into her hands that clenched each other.

Perhaps…he wasn’t able to come today. That would make sense. He was only suppose to watch over her for so long. Maybe their time came up. She rolled her body into a mixture of covers and sheets. Trying to block the thoughts from her mind.

Before the tears could form on her, a feather, white and practically glowing fluttered ontop her hands. Eyes widening in surprise and happiness, she sprang from her bed. A wide and sweet smile on her lips as hers eyes met with pale blue eyes. “You came..” Nodding, the man with white hair made his way toward the girl’s high bed. The mattress came to his waist and the girl on her knees in it came to his nose. His left hand went behind her head as her left hand reached to touch his chin. His wing following his hand and circling around her back.

“Worried?” he asked, closing his eyes.
    ”A bit..” Dinah answered.
    “It‘s alright.”
She nodded. “Because…you‘re still here, Cygnus”

He didn’t respond, just smiled warmly and sullenly.
